(Not really, she handles it better... ;-) Golden Spiders 1/1 By Meredith Bronwen Mallory mallorys-girl@cinci.rr.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ³For a young woman to dream she sees golden spiders crawling around her, portends the healing of painful romance, reconciliation with her lover, an improvement on her future, and possibilities for happiness.² - Gustavus Hindman Miller, ³10,000 Dreams Interpreted². ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Contrary to popular belief, the evil do dream when they sleep. When else would that small part of themselves that remembers the good, crawl out from itıs hiding place, and remind them what itıs like to be halfway human? Most are haunted by terrible nightmares, they see all the evil deeds they have done one after the other... over and over again. That is why the evil do not *like* to sleep. Queen Beryl was no exception. She went as long as she could WITHOUT sleep, but alas, she could avoid it no longer, and closed her reptilian eyes for the rest he body demanded. As she did this, her control loosened. Control over a certain brainwashed Prince of Earth. While Beryl was awake, part of her mind kept a tight, telepathic control over everything Endymion saw, thought and perceived But now, while she slept, her reign slipped, allowing, thoughts, feelings and emotions to slip through the cracks and remind Endymion... of love. --------------- Spell binder. She was a sorceress to be sure. She had to be. Who else, prey tell, could make him want to desert Queen Beryl? Endymion wondered as he watched the golden rabbit from his place behind a tree. He shouldnıt be here, he knew, but he could not help himself. He was addicted to her presence. He had seen her in battle a few times before; the infamous Sailor Moon, and was drawn, like a moth to a flame, towards her light, so different from his own darkness. There were so many things about her he simply could not understand. How could she be Sailor Moon? She was so young, so child-like, how could SHE be a warrior? He didnıt ponder this, he knew he would never understand it. He contented himself to watch her. Usagi walked down the dirt path by herself today, not surrounded by the usual quartet of friends/protectors that called themselves the Sailor Senshi. Her light blue sundress played a game of tug-of-war with the wind, her golden streamers of hair waving delicately in the breeze. In her hands she clasped the handle of her picnic basket, swinging it back and forth as she made her way down towards the creek. She wanted to be alone today, though the effort she had put forth to get the solitude had been most exhausting. Eventually though, she had spewed enough assurances to Luna and the others, that they agreed to leave her alone for the day. So Usagi made her way down to her special spot by the creek. Finally, the dirt road ended and she found herself once again awed by the beauty of the glade. The grass was soft and green, littered with red and gold leaves, and shinning, happy little brook made itıs way right down the middle. Setting her basket down by her favorite tree, Usagi sighed. She had hoped to bring Mamo-chan here one day, share a picnic, maybe a kiss, and lay beside him in the grass and look at the sky. Would she ever see him again? Enchantress. That had to be it. Every move sheıd ever made, ever little pout that made him want to kiss her so badly, it was all completely intentional. With one purpose only: To lure him in... Endymion was sure of it. It made perfect sense, of course, she had placed him under her spell. That was the reason, and the ONLY reason, why now as he watched her, clothed in an innocent little sundress, he wanted to badly to place his hands on her, wrap his arms around her. Of course. Usagi kicked off her sandals and made her way barefooted towards the creek. Her dainty feet splashed happily in the crystalline waters, disturbing frogs, and fish alike. The cool water felt good against her skin, almost like a balm. Lately, it had seemed her very soul was on fire with the most painful sensations... her darling Mamo-chan, gone. Usagi fought back the sniffles that threatened to over take her. Then, she felt a little, harmless nibble on her big toe, and looked down to see a small fish, who had apparently mistaken the digit for itıs meal. Usagi laughed as it nibbled again, apparently deciding her flesh was not as tasty as first imagined, for it swam away. Raising her face to the sun, the golden haired Champion of Love and Justice, let out a giggle and proceeded to splash about the creek in a most unladylike fashion. The release lasted only a few minutes, but she was glad for it. For a moment, she had forgotten all about Metalia, Senshi business and her pain. She was just.. free. Why was it now that she felt Mamo-chanıs presence? It was impossible, of course, he was somewhere else, probably bowing and scrapping to Beryl even as Usagi breathed and yet... Spent, Usagi climbed from the creek and lay down on the soft grass, watching the cherry blossoms as they fell softly from the tree. She didnıt even bother to lay out her blanket, just curled up with a little yawn, and closed her eyes. Siren. Yes, one of the mythical creatures that sang her song, enchanting soldiers so they left their ships to be near her, only to die trying to get close. Usagi was a siren, Endymion thought as he watched the little rabbit lay down in the grass, curl up and close her eyes. She sang a song no one could hear, and Endymion inched closer. He should kill her right there, he knew. For doing so Queen Beryl would reward him handsomely. But all the riches Metalia had to offer could not compare with the peace Endymion felt when near Usagi. When oneıs soul is forced to serve someone against itıs will, a truly good soul, like Mamoruıs, it becomes physically pained by the dark energy. He was in pain, Endymion, and the part of him that was Mamoru, and Usagi eased that pain. He wanted to be closer, though he knew (or thought) it was wrong. Slowly, he approached her, and raised a hand over her body, not touching. He placed a small, sleeping spell on her. He did not want her to wake up and shout in fear when she saw the Dark Prince had approached her. Assured that she rested, he ran his hands through her soft golden hair, laid down beside her for a moment and reveled in the soothing warmth she released upon his pained soul. The sword seethed at his side demanded that he kill her, but he fought to the order off. He would not kill her, at least not today. Endymion let go of her, laying the blanket out over her when he saw how she shivered. Then he released the spell, and gently, brushed his lips against her own. ³Mamo-chan,² Usagi murmured in sleep. The Prince drew back at the sound of the name. The dark energy within him clouded his thoughts, hiding the memory of that name from him. ³Usako,² he whispered, forgetting what the word meant, the significance of the name, almost as soon as it left his lips. His traitorous hands once again dove into her locks of spun gold, if only for a moment. Then in a smattering of dark energy, Endymion was gone, returning to the Negaverse and his Queen. Alone once more, the little rabbit continued to sleep, and dreamt of golden spiders. END
