She laid flowers on the two gravestones and then walked away where he couldn't see her. She waited, not sure if he came every day. But this week was the anniversary of the accident so he cameeveryday... He walked in with roses and approached the stones. The he spotted theflowers Serena had left and started, his thoughts spinning. He turned around instinctively and came face to face with... "Serena!?" How many times could this girl catch him off guard!? Her sad face gazed up at him fearfully."You left the flowers?"She nodded. "How did you...?" "I say you here yesterday Darien. I'm sorry--I mean, I don't want tointrude or anything....I just...thought..." Her voice quieted, "No one should have to visit a graveyardalone..."He simply stared at her letting the words sink in. "They're your parents." She half stated, half asked."Yes." He said flatly. "I read the dates....you must've been really young.""I was six." He swallowed. "I'm sorry! I just thought after I saw you, I should leave some flowers of my own.If I made a mistake I--" "No, it's alright. I appreciate it." He said, surprising her. "No one but me ever leaves flowers." He added, "I really don't know anything about my parents. I-I don't remember them." He said softly, "I got amnesia after the accident."She gazed at him sorrowfully. Unable to say anything. "It's thirteen years ago today." He said, after a moment's silence. He laid the roses down carefully with Serena's flowers. "I wish I remembered them." And at that moment Serena herself wished it for him, more than anything else in the world. She felt a tear run down her cheek, and as she stood behind him she wished,~Oh please, please let him remember....those memories are all he has...and he doesn't even have those....~ A crescent moon appeared on her forehead without her or Darien--whoseback was to her-realizing and her brooch picked up a glow and then dimmed. Darien straigtened stiffly and Serena could not help but take his hand in a soft squeezeof comfort. He started, and glanced over at her with surprise...but he also returned the squeeze. They stood for a long moment. (AN: I love long moments don't you? ;) Then Darien surprised her again. "Thanks Serena, c'mon, I'll walk you home." And he managed a small, but sincere smile for her. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~&~~~~~~~~~~@ The next day Serena sat in the arcade sipping absently at a milkshake. She couldn't shake Darien from her thoughts. Her heart was heavy--she hadn't felt this helpless since...since before she was Sailormoon! She couldn't help but feel there must be something she could do...butwhat? Something more than she...or Sailormoon....could do? She felt like she was on the vergeof remembering something really important....but what? An older couple came into the arcade and sat at the table next to her. Their conversationbroke her reverie. "I know it seems silly after all this time," Said the woman, "But being back her makesme feel so sad. It seems like it was just yesterday!" "We haven't been back since the accident dear. I'm not surprised you feel that way." theman said soothingly. "Oh it was all so sad!" Exclaimed the woman, "The poor Chiba's!" Serena jumped up as though given an electric shock. "I'm sorry--I don't mean to eavesdrop--but did you just say the-theChiba's?!" The coupled looked at her, "Yes, they were dear friends of ours when we lived here. They were killed in a terrible care accident nearly...thirteen years ago--along with their little boy Darien."The woman's eyes filled with tears. "But Darien wasn't killed!" Serena practically shouted. "WHAT?!" exclaimed the couple. "He lived! He has amnesia though--he can't remember his parents or the accident.""You--you know him?" Faltered the man, recovering before his wife. 'Yes, he's a--a friend of mine...Oh please say you'll see him! He has no memoriesat all! You could tell him about his parents!"They stood together. "Ofcourse! Ofcourse we want to see him! Oh--if only we had known!" choked the woman. The three rushed out the door to Darien's apartment. (AN: What do you mean 'how would she know where that is?' haven't youever read 'After A Battle?' *wicked giggle* ;p) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~%~~~~~~@ "Hello?" asked Darien through the intercom.~Who could it be?~ "Hey Darien--it's Serena. Can I come up? I have some people with me you definitely wantto meet.""uh, sure." He replied and buzzed them in. He opened the door to Serena and an older looking couple. They were staring at him in utter disbelief. "Darien, this is Zach and Grace Walsh....they were best friends with your parents" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~&~~~~~~@ Ahhhh suspense!
