Hey people things are looking rather strange here I'm sure. I figured that it's time I make an important annocement about this story. It's all thanks to Jade, who ( if you didn't know ) is my magnificent editor and bringing up all sorts of things that I miss, to my attention. NOTICE: USAGI IS NOT THE SAME PERSON THAT WAS CREATED IN THE MANGA AND/OR ANIME. This is my version of how I think it should happen. I do realize that I should have made this statement a long time ago and I'm sorry that I didn't. I personally like to think that Usagi has the potential of being such a better person than she was made out to be. In this story ( I hope I mentioned ) Usagi maintains about a B to B- average. She's not usually a late person. And she's a bit stronger than Usagi was in say in the first season ( in the manga she was a little bit better, than the anime ). I'm sorry if this completely goes against your thinking. If it does than you don't have to read any further, but if it doesn't then I hope you will continue to read. That's it...here's the story. The Rewriting of a Legend Episode 5 By Rain Ayo ( rain_ayo@yahoo.com ) "Usagi's the Moon Princess?" Venus asked. "Wait a minute! How can you think that? I mean who says!" Usagi said looking around nervously at her friends. Luna started to pace between their legs. "It's possible," Artemis said as he joined her going in another direction. "It's so obvious. Why didn't we see it?" "I'M NOT THE MOON PRINCESS!" Usagi yelled. "I'm just Usagi, with a part time job. I'm no princess." "We don't have any proof of this though. The Princess was supposed to be awakened by the crystal. If we have the crystal then perhaps we'll find out if Usagi is the princess," Luna said ignoring Usagi's yelling. Usagi stamped her foot. "You're doing it again," she said through her teeth. "So we're back to where we started," Artemis said. "There still isn't any leads as to where the crystal may be." Usagi sighed and walked off. She was mumbling as she went into the temple to check on Ami. "What was the whole point of my taking off if no one is going to remember that I have feelings," she mumbled. Artemis stopped in front of Mamoru. "You said you heard about the crystal through dreams. How do you find your leads?" he asked. "I just get this feeling that she'll be there when I see different things on TV or in the newspaper," he said. "I can't explain it." "That's not very reliable," Jupiter said. "I've heard of some kinds of mental and spiritual links where a pair can always tell when the other is at all times," Luna said. "Perhaps you share a similar link." 'I think it's a little more complicated than that,' he thought. He figured the small (strange) talking cat wouldn't care to hear what he wanted to say anyway. Sailor Mars looked Mamoru over for a minute. "I think I want to do a fire reading. Perhaps it can help some," she said as she entered the temple at another entrance. "So Chiba Mamoru. What do you know about us?" Venus asked, ready to continue her interrogation. Usagi sat down beside Ami. Ami was still asleep, as she probably would be for the rest of the day and part of the next. "You know Ami. We never really got to know one another. We've never done stuff like real friends do. We're always too busy with our mission to enjoy being together," Usagi said. "Now that they think I'm the Moon Princess, I probably won't be able to have a life now. "Well I just hope that everyone will get along with Mamoru. That's the guy who fought with us back there against Nephrite. Venus seems to think that it's a good idea to not trust him. I don't know if I'll ever be able to find anything that will make her trust him. "I love him. I know it's a big thing and I know that I feel it deep inside of my heart and soul. He feels the same way, I can tell. It's thanks to him that I feel I can go on with this. He promised to help me through this. He wants to fight with me and protect me. I wish he wouldn't get involved like this. I don't want to see him hurt, but there isn't any other way I suppose." "Usagi?" someone said behind her. She turned around and saw Rei looking at her with a surprised look on her face. "I...I guess your right. About a lot of things." Rei walked over to Usagi and sat down beside her. "Ven-Minako has really been obsessed with our mission. I never really cared to think about it. I just knew that this was something I had to do and therefore I did it. The consequences didn't seem to matter to me," she said. "Well it's a good thing that you wanted to do this. That your sense of duty was enough to make things easier for you," Usagi said. "We do need to get out and relax. We're all strung up and at our wits end. We need a vacation," she said as she looked at Ami's sleeping form. "I don't know a thing about any of you." Usagi placed a hand on Rei's shoulder. "Well if you want to know anything just ask," she said as a smile spread across her face. Mamoru had left the temple to return to his apartment. He had wanted to say goodbye to Usagi, but when he saw how animated she and Mars were, he hadn't wanted to butt in. Venus watched him walk slowly down the stairs. She was the only one who hadn't detransformed. She crossed her arms in front of her as she watched him. "I do not trust him, Artemis," she told the white cat at her feet. "I noticed," he said. "But why?" "Emotions are what brought us here in the first place. I don't want him around Usagi at all. Whether she is the Princess or not," she said. "There's no way you'll be able to stop her. She's already proven that once," Artemis said. Venus didn't reply, she simply turned on her heel and walked away. Artemis sighed and soon followed her. Makoto had joined in the converstation with Usagi and Rei, and they were giggling and enjoying themselves. As soon as Venus entered the room, they all stopped talking. Venus looked at them emotionlessly. "Usagi," she said. "I don't want you to see that Chiba Mamoru anymore." Usagi jumped up angrily. "Who made *YOU* my mother?" she asked. "I'm not telling you. I'm ordering you to," Venus said. Usagi walked straight up to Venus and stared into her emotionless face. "You of all people cannot order me around," she said. "I'm surprised that you were ever chosen to be our leader. A leader is supposed to feel compassion and care for the welfare of those she leads over her own. The only important thing to you is this foolish mission. Perhaps you just made it up to gain someone to lord over. Well you cannot lord over me anymore. You can take your leadership and go shove it!" She ran past Venus and out of the temple. Venus looked at the others and they left the room behind Usagi. Venus looked at the sleeping form on the bed and wondered if she would have left as well. "Usagi, wait!" Makoto called. "We're sticking with you." She turned and smiled at them. "Thank you guys. I have an idea and I'd appreciate your help," she said. "What's the plan?" Rei asked. "We need to find out everything we can from Nephrite, Zoisite, and Jadeite. Anything at all. They can't be completely wiped. Perhaps we can jog their memory or something," she said. "I just wish Venus would be more cooperative. I think she knows things that she doesn't want to tell us." "Sounds good, but what about Ami? Someone should stay with her. Who knows what Venus'll do now. We don't want something happen to Ami and there be no one there to take care of her," Makoto said. "I'll stay with her. You two go ahead. Maybe I can get a fire reading that will help some," Rei said. "Okay. We'll see if we can find out what has happened to the mystery men," Makoto said. Rei headed back into the temple as Makoto and Usagi went down the stairs of the temple and headed for the hospital their foes had been left at. It took them a while to get there. When they arrived they were astonished that information about the three they'd brought in was willingly being given. It turned out that Jadeite was already released. He'd been assisted by a local unknown charity and had been able to get an apartment and job with their help. Nephrite was being assisted as well. Zoisite, who'd been wounded badly was still in the ICU. They decided that since they were there, they might as well go and see Nephrite. They found Nephrite in a room by himself. He stood by the window. His shoulder was covered with bandages. Usagi wondered what it had been from. The name plate outside said simply, "Unknown." Usagi cleared her throat in an attempt to get his attention. He turned and looked at them with surprise in his eyes. For a moment Usagi was afraid that he recognized them. "Visitors? For me?" he asked in surprise. "Hello. My name is...Usagi. This is Makoto," Usagi said. "We came to see how much you remember." "Another one. Everyone thinks that they can cure me, but I know it's uncurable," he said. "Why is that?" Makoto asked. "Because I don't want to remember," Nephrite said. "I know I've done horrible things. I don't have to remember. I feel it inside. I can hear the night sky singing the truth. It's best if I never remember." They were silent for a moment. "Can you please excuse us for a moment? There is something I need to ask my friend here," Usagi said as she drew Makoto out of the room. "What is it Usagi?" Makoto whispered. "I think he should at least know his name. His name must be something important from the life he had before he was brainwashed," Usagi said. "You're right. He should be able to take something with him from his past that isn't tainted by the evil that took him over," Makoto said. They returned to the room and Nephrite was once again looking out his window. Usagi went over to Nephrite. "Would you like to know your name?" she asked him. He looked at her. "What do you mean?" he asked. "I know what your name is," she said. "Would you like to know what it is?" He blinked in surprise and nodded. Makoto went over to him as well. "It's Nephrite," she said. "Nephrite," he said softly. "Thank you, both of you." Usagi spotted out of the corner of her eye a change in Makoto's face. She smiled brightly and her eyes sparkled slightly. Something she'd never seen in Makoto before. Nephrite also seemed to glow. It was as if something was going on between them and neither seemed to realize anything. "Your more than welcome," Usagi said. "We wish you the best of luck in your new future." "Shall I see either of you again?" he asked as he finally broke his gaze from Makoto to include Usagi as well. "Perhaps," Usagi said. "Yes, perhaps," Makoto said, not completely out of her daze. "Until then," Nephrite said as his gaze returned once again to just Makoto. Usagi tried not to, but she nearly dragged Makoto out of there. She didn't say anything, trying to let all of that sink into Makoto's head. Makoto came out of it and nearly jumped up and down. "He's so handsome!" she exclaimed. "I noticed," Usagi said with a smile. "It was weird," Makoto said as she tried to explain what happened. "Like I know him or something, but other than when we fought at the pagent I've never seen him before in my life." Usagi thought about that and realized she felt a strange sense of recognition from him as well. "I think I know what you mean. I feel that I've met him as well," she said. "Although I know the feelings that go along with the meeting or meetings are quite different from yours." "Hmm...I wonder what it means," Makoto said. "It means we need more of the facts. I think there's a lot we need to find out," she said. "For now let's go back to Rei. Maybe she'll have found something out." The priestess shut the door to Ami's borrowed room. "I haven't found anything yet. Perhaps I'm just not looking in the right place," she said. "Well what if you tried to find something about Nephrite. Not about the Negaverse, but about his past. Maybe it'll answer this question we seem to have about him." "I recognized him. Well kinda like a deja vu feeling. Usagi had it too," Makoto said. Rei nodded. "I'll give it a try. I'll let you know what my results are," she said. "We better get home. It's starting to get late and we need some sleep," Usagi said. "I agree," Makoto said. "Hey what ever happened to Venus?" Rei looked at the floor. "She ran off when I entered Ami's room. Artemis stayed there and we talked for a bit. It seems that there is a lot she's not telling us. Artemis thinks that he shouldn't be the one to tell us what she knows. She has to be able to do it on her own," Rei said. "We should find her tomorrow then," Usagi said. "It sounds like she could use a friend right about now." The others nodded and agreed to meet again the next day. Rei went back into the fire room after the others left. She knelt down and went through a few relaxation exercises she went through before beginning to perform a reading. "Great fire help me see what Nephrite was like before the evil," she said softly. In her mind's eye she could see Nephrite in a dark uniform of some sort. He was sitting at a table with someone who looked just like Mamoru, Zoisite, Jadeite and another man she couldn't name. With the picture she could feel a strange recognition of them all. They seemed to be laughing and having a good time. The scene shifted to that of a battle field. The five men were slicing through their enemies like a warm knife through butter. Each watching the others' backs. They're closeness was very obvious. The scene shifted one last time. This time Nephrite stood alone with a very regal looking Makoto. He held her hand and was speaking to her, although she did not know what he said. Makoto was in tears and he kissed her lightly before rushing away from her. Rei blinked open her eyes. 'Makoto never met him before. How is that possible?' she asked herself. 'Was that our past...on the Moon?' The next day Usagi went directly to Minako's home without the others. She knocked on the door and Minako answered it. She looked at Usagi with the same emotionless look she'd been wearing for too long now. "Minako. I wanted to talk to you," Usagi said. "Is it all right if I come in." "What ever you would like," she said. She led Usagi to the living room and they each took a seat across from one another. "I suppose you expect me to apologize and come crawling back to you," she said. "Well I'm not going to apologize for what I've said and I'm not crawling back anytime soon. What I want to talk to you about is what is going on with you. We need to work together whether we like it or not. So either you can talk to me, or one of the others, or you can stay working off by yourself on this task." Minako sat back in the chair and crossed her arms. "Why should I talk to you or anyone else? I don't have a problem," she said. "Obviously you do or else you wouldn't be acting like you've got a bug up your ass," Usagi said. "I believe you are wrong. But if you are so sure that you know I have a problem what is it?" she asked. "Well I don't know, but I do know a lot of things you probably don't want me to know. Like I do know that you know a lot about our past and our enemy then you think you let on," Usagi said. "Maybe it has nothing to do with either of them. I don't really know, but if you really have no desire to talk to me about it then fine. I was hoping that I could help you and not interrogate you. It seems that I'll just have to interrogate you." She got up and shook her head. "I'll be back to find out all that we need to know later." Makoto hadn't been able to rid herself of the image of Nephrite looking out the window in his hospital room. He seemed sad, lonely, and lost all at once. She'd wanted to hold him and make him realize that it would be all right. She decided that she wanted to go and visit him again that day. He was standing by the window once again looking up at the sky. "Umm...am I interrupting something?" she asked softly. He turned and saw her. His face brightened a bit. "No of course not. Come in, Lita," he said. 'Er...I wish Usagi hadn't lied. I don't know why, but I still wish she hadn't,' Makoto thought. "I was just thinking about you," he said. "You were?" she asked. "Yes. Your the first person I actually think I may remember," he said. "Really?" she asked shocked. "It's hard to say, but you do seem very familiar to me," he said. "I have a similar feeling, except I know we've never met before yesterday," she said. He looked crestfallen. "Really? Oh...perhaps I mistook you for someone else," he said. 'Oh why did I go and say that?' she asked herself. "Maybe..maybe we knew each other in another life," she suggested foolishly. "Perhaps...perhaps," he said sounding almost convinced. "Well what brought you here today?" "That's strange. Makoto isn't usually late," Usagi said. "You're right," Rei said. "Where could she be?" Running up the stairs came Makoto. "I'm sorry I'm late guys. I kinda got caught up with something," she said. "Don't worry about it. It gave Ami some extra time to get ready. She's up and has been filled in pretty well about what has been happening," Rei said. "She healed up pretty fast too. I can't explain it. I guessed that maybe it had something to do with our powers and Ami went into this tirade with her computer trying to figure out if I was even right." They laughed as they could all picture Ami doing just that. She came out of the temple shortly after that. "Are we all ready to go?" she asked. They headed over to Minako's only to find that she was gone. "Just great," Makoto mumbled. "She probably went into hiding on us." "She probably did," Usagi said. "I went to see her this morning and I told her that she was going to have to tell us everything she knows. She didn't seem to care, but maybe she really did and ran off." "She didn't run off, Usagi," called Artemis from one of the upstairs windows. "She's hiding in here. Just come in. I'll try to coax her out of her room." They all went in and waited a few moments for Minako to come down. When she didn't and there was a loud scream, "Get out of here this instant Artemis!" they all ran upstairs. Artemis was unconscious against the wall and the door had been shut. They opened it quickly and saw that Minako wasn't alone in her room. There was another man in there. He wore the same gray uniform as Nephrite, Zoisite, and Jadeite had worn. Only he had a gray cape on as well. His long white hair fluttered slightly in the soft breeze. Minako looked like she wanted to cry. Her hands were balled into fists. "Why you? Why Kunzite? You knew just as well as I did what we were to do. How could you have given in so easily?" she asked softly. He blinked and Minako thought that he might have heard her. Just as suddenly as he did his gaze return to the blank look it was before. He stretch a hand out towards her and a black beam shot towards her. She jumped out of the way and the others ran for cover. "You won't be as easy as the others I suppose," Minako said through her tears. "I will not allow you to repeat history." His black eyes looked almost sad and Minako looked almost hopeful. Even if he was more like a robot than a man. "I'll save you. Venus Power!" she said. In a whirl of orange light Sailor Venus stood before the zombie. "I am the descendent of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. I will protect all love and destroy those who destroy love. Thus I have sworn to destroy Metallia and Beryl who have destroyed my love," she said. "Crescent Beam!" She sent a thin white beam of light at him and he leaped over it. Another one was quickly sent behind her where he landed. It connected with his arm and he didn't even seemed phased by the green blood coming out of his arm. Behind her the others quickly transformed. "Venus get him out of here before we blow your house up," Moon said. Venus nodded wordlessly and jumped out her window. The others quickly followed and the strange man after them. He charged at Venus turning all of his attention to her. Jupiter sent out a stream of lightning towards him, but it only stopped him for a moment. "Stop everyone. I'll handle this by myself," Venus said. "Are you crazy?" Mars asked. Moon placed a hand on her shoulder stopping Mars. "Let her. Can't you see it in her eyes. She can handle this," she said. Venus dodged the few attempts the man made to blast her. Venus was showing signs of tiring, but the man showed none. Venus charged him and kicked him in the stomach. He grabbed her leg and threw her into a nearby tree. She pulled herself up slowly. "Kunzite..are you in there at all?" she asked. "What did she do to you? Did she destroy you and leave only this shell? You promised you wouldn't leave me." Her desperation slowly grew. "Kunzite, please answer me!" Kunzite looked as if he wanted to cry, but still shot several bolts of black energy at her. She was barely able to leap over them all. She landed directly in front of him and held his face in her hands. "Please fight her," she said. "Please for me." His eyes flickered for a moment and Venus smiled slightly. He pushed her away and Venus leaped into the air before a dozen or so more bolts of black energy could hit her. As she landed a few feet away from him he fell to one knee holding his head. "I can't do it...just kill me," he said. "No! I won't lose you again," she said. She rushed to his side and held him in her arms. "Lady Aphrodite please help me. Venus power!" She glowed a slight orange color. "We can do it together." She kissed him and the glow spread to envelope them both. The glow brightened and the others had to look away. When the light dimmed they could see a black cloud escaping Kunzite's body and being torn apart. The pair slumped down and Venus rested his head in her lap. "Are you all right Venus?" Jupiter asked. Tears streamed down her face as she looked up at them and smiled. "He's back," she said. Mercury went over to them and check them over with her computer. "Well there's nothing seriously wrong with either of you. Just a little bit of exhaustion, I supposed," she said. "I've seen him before. In the vision I had about Nephrite," she said. When they all gave her questioning looks she quickly explained what she had seen. "So it is true. Usagi is the Moon Princess. And Mamoru is the Prince of Earth," Venus said. "I'm not the Princess!" Moon exclaimed. Venus shook her head. "I remember where you do not. I just couldn't remember your faces. I remember names, dates, all the important things that I needed to know. We, as in the Senshi, worked with the four Guardians of the Prince of Earth when the Princess was married to Prince Endymion," she said. "Woah! Hold up. Perhaps you better start from the beginning," Jupiter said. ***************************************************************************** Well this is all just leading up to the fun and important stuff that is yet to come.
