On my own
Pretending he's beside me.

Part Six: The Choice She Made

Serena looked out the airport as a plane swiftly rose towards the sky 
and she swallowed the lump in her throat. Her family had just dropped
her off and amidst the tears and hugs she had forgotten that she had a
slight fear of planes. As she saw another lift just in time to not
fall into the ocean she swallowed an even bigger lump. Ex that out.
She had a HUGE fear of planes. But she knew that she didn't have to
go. Darien's face flashed in her mind. How could she go through withthis?
"You have to Serena, you just have to", she said to herself and before
she knew it she felt the tears filling her eyes. Serena sat in a nearby
chair and put her face in her hands. Should she go? Could she go? She
had to live with the fact that she was coward, someone who couldn't
face anything that was bigger than her or stronger to her.
"Gate 22, now boarding. Flight from Tokyo to New York, now boarding", 
The voice on the intercom said. Getting up she wiped her eyes and took
her luggage in her hands. Why was she doing this? The past had caught
up with her and soon she had to face it. She made her choice.

"Okay Darien get up before I kick you", Raye said as Darien sat on the
floor of the studio in misery. It was understandable and she felt his
pain. She missed Serena so much. So it must have been ten times as
worse for him. She knelt down besides him. "You have to get up, I know
your feeling bad but she'll find a way back to you. I know it." She 
smiled at him and patted. "I haven't always put my faith in love but
when I see you two I understand what love is." Tears filled her eyes.
"And no one has ever done that. I wouldn't understand what I felt
for Chad if it weren't for both of you. Thank you Darien" He smiled 
back at her though it look pained.
"No problem Raye",he said in quiet, choked voice. "Better start 
stretching. Miss Yoshio will be here soon" He got up and wiped his eyes.
"I thought you didn't like to dance", Raye asked jokingly. "The only 
reason you took this class is to score brownie points with Serena"
"What can I say? I got into it", he responded. "Now where is our teacher?"
"Good afternoon class", A familiar voice said and Darien turned. There
before him stood Serena. Her blond hair shone in the light and her
eyes were a clear blue as they gazed into his eyes. His breath caught 
in his throat. She walked towards him and tears filled her eyes. "Hello"
"Hey", he said breathlessly. "What are you doing here?" 
"You said to come back when I learned to fight back", she said and 
took his hand. "But I don't know how to fight Darien" Her face 
crumpled in tears." I love you so much though and if I have to suffer 
a million years of Julian than I will" He wrapped his arms around her 
and kissed her hair. She held on tighter, never wanting to let go. "No
matter what it takes. We'll have each other forever"
"Forever and forever and forever...", he whispered in her ear and then
kissed her softly on the lips. "I am so in love with you Serena 
Tsukino" He took her hands and Serena's face broke into a grin.
Their lips met again and again and again-
"Okay well in the midst of all the love can both of you stop making 
OUT?!", Mina said with her hand on her hips. She held her arms out
and Serena hugged her. "Welcome back girl"
"We've missed you", Ami said with tears in her eyes as she hugged
Serena. She laughed and wiped her eyes. "Now you've gone and mademe cry!" 
"Don't you ever scare us like that AGAIN!", Lita said and put an arm
around her. "I don't know how long I can take all these tears!" 
Everyone else welcomed her back except for Raye. They looked at each 
other for a moment. All of a sudden Raye's arms where embracing her.
"Don't you EVER scare us like that again!", she said. "Whatever the 
problem is, we're here" Raye realized how much she cared Serena and
she was oh so glad that Darien had fallen for her. They might havenever met.
"Isn't this SWEET?", a voice said. Julian. Serena turned around in 
disgust. "Now I thought YOU were leaving or have you just not had
enough?" Julian felt a sense of foreboding but he wanted to get
back at her so bad. She made HIM look bad. She would pay. Serena
walk towards him and her mouth came close to his ear so that he
could feel her warm breath.
"Well you just keep on dishing it out", she whispered and drew back to
give him a sly smile. "Cause take a look Julian. I'M STILL HERE! And
if you keep pushing me down I'll get right back up" Serena was fighting
back. She walked towards him and he backed away. "Again" One step 
forward, one step back. "And again" Another step forward, another step
back. "And again" Another step forward, another step-BANG! It was nice
seeing Julian hit that wall. "I'm not leaving just yet but maybe YOU 
should" She touched his cheek with her finger. "IF you know what's 
best for you" Serena turned away and never looked back.
"Remember if you mess with her again. You deal with me", Darien sneered
as Julian shivered. From where he stood Darien looked pretty strong.
Darien looked at him and gave a grin before joining Serena.
"And after him you'll deal with me", Andrew said."And then me", Ken said.
"And then me", Greg said.
"So how tall are you again?", Chad said with uncertainty. "OUCH!" Raye
pinched him. "Yeah and then me"
"I know thirty different ways to hurt you with this one finger", Raye
said and held her pinky up. She slapped him lightly on the cheek and 
gave a jaunty smile. "Have a nice day"
"I'd watch myself if I were you", Lita warned him but saw that he
was frightened. "Don't worry but I'd RUN not walk if you knew what's
good for you"
"I don't have anything to say...but...um...YEAH!", Mina said and walked
away leaving Ami. Sweet Ami. Walking up to him she smiled and simply
kneed him the groin.

The sun began to set but Serena and her friends decided that they
should stay a little while longer for life was sweet and for once
things were alright again. But for now Serena just wanted one thing...
That chocolate sundae in front of her.
Digging happily into it she savored the vanilla ice cream and sighed
with content."Thank you guys for introducing me to ice cream", she said as she 
gobbled what was left. Raye glared at her for taking the remains
of the ice cream. 
"But did you have to pig out on it?!", Raye said and glared. "There's
nothing left for us" Chad put an arm around her and grinned.
"Well you'll just have to share MINE", Chad suggested. Smiling Raye
took the ice cream and dumped it on his head. She stormed away and he 
grinned. "Did I not tell you she was MADLY in love with me?!" Serena
cracked up but was interupted but the warm lips of Darien's on hers.
He liked the taste of her. She tasted of chocolate.
"Ah they're finally together", Mina said and Andrew wrapped an arm 
around her waist. She turned to look at him. "And how about us?"
"What do you mean?",Andrew asked with mocked perplexed look. He took
a velvet box from his pocket and opened it to reveal a gold promise
ring with her name engraved on it. "Is this what you mean? I mean
this is what someone would give their girlfriend, right?"
"Yes they would", Mina said in a choked voice and looked in his eyes. 
"Thank you Andrew"
"Thank YOU Mina",Andrew said and kissed her softly on the lips.
"Well Serena and Darien are together, Mina and Andrew are obviously 
getting busy, Ken and Lita are on a boat ride together, and Raye
and Chad are God knows where. And what about us?", Greg asked Ami.
She looked down at the grass. Oh God she didn't know what to say.
"What about us?", Ami countered.
"Ami what would you do if I kissed you?", Greg asked intently as
he looked at her. Ami blushed bright red.
"I think I'd die", she said and smiled. "It would be worth it"
Greg leaned towards her and their lips met for a moment.
"Be my girlfriend Ami", he said softly and she nodded. Serena watched
them with glee as they walked off when she felt Darien's strong armsaround her.
"We've done everything we've had to do", Serena commented and looked
at her boyfriend. "Now what?" Darien thought for a moment and stood
up. He held out his hand.
"Shall we dance?", he said as she stood up. Taking her in his arms
they danced under the new stars.
