Title-Love and Hate Chapter 10 Author-Tif Email-tg_76@hotmail.com Rated-pg-13 Too Good To Be True "Doctor Chiba Mina and Andrew called a minute ago and said that after work they want us to meet them at Mina's apartment to rehearse for the big day on Sunday," Serena said in a business like manner hiding the emotion she felt. "Okay. After work we'll both go there. Just two more hours and we can leave. Isn't it lucky of us to not have any unsuccessful operations, Serena? Maybe luck is on my side," Darien said as he walked out of his office. "Yes… I'm really glad that we were able to save everyone's live but it doesn't mean that we won't encounter one." Serena replied following Darien out of his office. But before he could say anything else his beeper went off and he and Serena were rushing to section B2 in the hospital. Two Hours Later… "Doctor Chiba, I'm sorry that this had to be your first unsuccessful operation but it had to happen sooner or later," Doctor Matthew said as he tried to comfort a miserable and tired doctor. "Yes…but did I have to fail when it was a child? I let that child down. It was a kid not even ten yet…and I couldn't save him. Why? Why when it most counted I couldn't save him? What am I going to tell the parents?" *When it most counted I failed…why? The boy was full of life, he would have a future and now everything is gone. I couldn't save him. He would never experience another day of his life…never get to meet new people, go to high school, fall in love…his light is gone forever.* "Darien it's not your fault. You shouldn't blame yourself. It's not your fault," Serena tried to comfort Darien but before she could continue two figures rushed forward and… "How is my son? Could you save him?" asked the father of the child now worn out and tiredness and worries strain his features. "How is my son? I want to know…can I see him now?" sobbed the boy's mother as she looked like she was going to break down. "We are sorry sir but we couldn't save him…It was too late," Darien stuttered out. "You couldn't save my little Steve? He's gone? Nooooo! Nooooo! It can't be true. What kind of doctor are you?" sobbed Steve's mother. She clutched Darien's doctor jacket tightly. "Thanks to you he won't see another day…he won't live to see he's tenth birthday," the father said sternly as he look at Darien with hatred. "Please calm down. Doctor Chiba did his best," Serena said as she calmed the parents down. The mother let go of her hold on Darien's jacket and slide into her husband's arm. Darien seeing that he no longer was being held down ran out of the waiting room and Serena soon follow him leaving Doctor Matthew to calm down the parents and make them understand that this was no one's fault. Outside the hospital and into the park nearby where it once was a special place to Serena and Darien, Serena found Darien with his face down at their special bench… "Darien are you okay? It wasn't your fault that you couldn't save the boy," Serena said comfortingly yet Darien still remain quiet. "If you are going to take the blame for it then you should include me too. I was there helping you…maybe if I worked faster I could have save him. It's my fault…your not the one to blame," tears spilled through her eyes. "Serena…" Darien whispered lifting his head from his hands and wrapped his arm around her. As he silently cried in her arms while she cried in his arms their love for each other grew. *I miss her so much…I still love her so much,* thought Darien as he now hold a crying Serena his head buried into her hair. "Darien…you know it's not your fault right? You don't blame yourself for this right?" asked Serena as she recovered from her tears laying her head on his chest sighing deeply. *I miss him…miss his holding me…everything…I love him.* "I know it's not my fault but taking the blame helps the…pain for me. I know it was too good to be true when all these months I have succeeded but this one should have been successful…yet it wasn't and that's what hurt," Darien mumbled. His head still buried in her golden hair and he inhaled deeply. *Still smells like wild flowers…nothings changed…. she's still as beautiful as ever and she could always make me feel better. I can't live without her anymore. First thing on the to do list…break up with the annoying Beryl.* The two lay content in each others embrace for what seemed to be like an eternity before breaking apart and heading to Mina's apartment neither saying any words or emotions. Yet Another Wonderful Love Cupids Meeting After the rehearsal for Mina's wedding the group decided to have a meeting to discuss things when Darien and Serena left. "Okay, what's going on with those two," demanded Raye. "I think we have progressed a lot. Something good is going to happen," a starry eyed Mina said. "Especially when I went to take my wedding pictures…they acted like the perfect couple right Andrew?" "Right. The way he held Serena it was just like six years ago and the way she blushed when he held her was like nothing had ever changed between the two. It was a Kodak moment and I'm going to get the pictures tomorrow," Andrew told the group. "Did anyone noticed how sad and distant Darien seems to be tonight?" Ken asked as he noticed during the rehearsal that Darien had a pained look in his eyes and he was positive it was not because of Serena. "I can explain that. Today in the hospital, a nine year old child nine was rush into the hospital and after two long hours of operation Darien failed to help the child. His first unsuccessful operation," Greg finished and the whole group remained silent. "It had to happen sooner or later but it was hard for him since it was a child. The good thing is I heard from Doctor Matthew that Serena ran after him and it wasn't before two hours later they show up here together. So that means that she was with him and was cheering him up," Ami said happily breaking the silence. "If I know Serena she'll be able to cheer Darien up and also break the hatred and pain that's been in his heart," Seiya replied. "I remember she did the same thing to me when I first came here…she lifted a burden off my shoulders and 'till this day I'm still thankful that I have met her." "We can only hope, but…I think there's something wrong," Mina began. "I remember the day when I was taking my wedding pictures she told me about her pains for the first time. I don't think she can take it anymore…one more tear to her already torn heart and she might do something that will change both of their lives forever," Mina finished sadly. 'Sometimes I want to give it all up and leave…leave…leave' echoed in Mina's mind. "She might leave…forever," gasps was heard throughout the room. "She wouldn't would she?" Chad asked sadly. "I don't know but there might be a chance…one person can only take so much pain…" Seiya began but didn't have to finish as he got several knowing looks. "I think it's enough with these games…after your wedding I suggest we go up front with this. Darien better quit his games or he'll lose Serena forever. He's going to have to chose sooner or later and I've had it about to here," Lita motion her hand high above her head, "with this. I could understand at the beginning but in the end she was doing what was best for him…everything that she let go of was for him and now…now he's treating her like dirt. If it wasn't for you guys I would have packed several of my cooking knifes and attack…chop…whack," Lita motioned with her hands again as she begin to chop air feverishly. "Honey, calm down…you're starting to scare them," Ken putted his arms around his wife. "OOOooopppps," Lita stopped to see the wide terrifying looks that were staring at her big eyes. "I was only kidding," she commented as the others let out a long sigh. "No one wants to go along with it?" that got another round of gasps and big popping eyes. "Run!!!!" they all shouted as they dashed out the door leaving only a couple to stand there stunned. "Funny," Lita sarcastically said. "Yeah…didn't even wait for me," Ken mumbled but when he heard "You better run!" he immediately, as fast as his two legs would take him, ran out the door with a very angry Lita…Is she…holding knifes? One BIG Misunderstanding "Today is the big day. My big day!" sang Mina as she rode in the white limo on her way to the church. "I'm getting married…to a wonderful man…he makes my heart soar…and my mind…um…explode?" "Mina…Mina…clam down. And don't worry Andrew will still love you after he hears you sing. And your choice for lyrics…is…pa-th-e-tic!" Serena joked. "La la la…don't hear a certain…blond friend…nothing can ruin…this beautiful day…la…la…a bride with a beautiful voice….is me!" Mina continued singing even after she heard another groan from Serena and the limousine driver slowly pushed the up button on the window screen to separate himself from them. Several minutes passed by and soon the limousine parked. As he rolled down the window again he could see a singing bride and a bride's maid that was about to burst. "We are here Madame." "Thank god…let me out…let me out!" gasped Serena. "It wasn't that bad was it?" Mina pleaded. As the wedding song started to play "Du dan du du dan.du du du" the beautiful bride dressed in a traditional white wedding dress, with a hint of a yellow tint if looked at in the right light, walked down the aisle. Everyone quickly stood up and quieted down. The bride's maid followed slowly behind her until they reached their destination…in front of the priest. "Dearly beloved…we are gather here today to…" the priest started. "You look beautiful" whispered Darien into Serena's ear as she stood next to him causing her to blush a crimson red and look down. After what seemed like an eternity the priest ended "…you may kiss the bride." As Andrew lifted the veil that covered Mina's happy and loving face he gave her a long passionate kiss taking the breath away from each one. The crowd broke out in laughter, cheering, tears of joy, and whistling as the now, husband and wife headed down the aisle. Following them was the best man and bride's maid as they headed outside where rice and confetti was toss at them. After everyone calm down a bit everyone was gathered to take a very big big group picture. The bride and the groom in the middle and their best friends surrounded the two…all made sure that Darien and Serena were close together and the annoying Beryl who was invited against everyone's wishes was stuck in a far corner…getting cut off. After several snaps were taken the group divided into two as the single women were on one side and Mina and everyone else was on the other. "Serena aren't you joining them?" asked all her friends. "Um…no I don't want to…" but before she could get another word everyone pushed her and suddenly she found herself on the other side. "One…Two….Three," yelled Mina happily as she toss her bouquet of flower. To her friend's happiness and Beryl's dismay Serena caught it in the back after many women jumped up and down as their hands flew into the air unable to succeed in catching or touching the bouquet. "Go Serena," the girls chorused. "Yeahhhh!!!!" *Is faith on my side?* thought Serena, stunned that she held the bouquet of flower. She looked up and stared right into Darien's intense eyes and saw a smile on his lips. After the wedding ceremony, a reception was held in the grandest and most elegant restaurant to celebrate Andrew's new wife. At the restaurant Andrew and Mina walked from table to table with Darien and Serena…greeting, talking, laughing, and toasting with the guest. After an hour of walking around the food finally started to come out and the four soon started to settle at their own table. "Today has been a very tiring day but it was a lot of fun," commented Serena as she rested her legs. "My legs feel like they will fall of any second." "You're not the only one. I have done hours of strenuous workouts yet none compare to what I feel today," joked Darien as he sat next to Serena. "Oops…look at Beryl. I think I'd better go pull her away from those people…they look like they are about to tear her apart or go insane." He chuckled as he stood up and walked to the red head. *I better make a date to tell her that it's over…not that there was anything from the start. I'm going to have to tell her the truth…that I only love MY Serena. No one else…also tell her that I was…gulp…using her. Someone is not going to like it.* Darien with Beryl leading her away… "Beryl I want to make a date with you tomorrow," Darien started. "Over these past few days I realized something that I have to tell you." Darien finished. *These past few days, I have fallen in love with the girl...no beautiful lady, the only one. The one that broke my heart in the past yet now means more to me then life itself. And this act with you has got to stop. Thank god too* Darien let out a sigh of relief as he continued back to Andrew he smiled handsomely and brightly as the thought of Serena being in his arms again. "Okay, Darien I'll meet you after work tomorrow," Beryl said happily. *He's going to propose to me I bet. Probably saw how happy his best friend was and now he realizes that he loves me ohhh…* Neither of them realize that the conversation was overheard by a certain blond. As she saw Darien walk away with a smile on his face she replayed what Darien had said to Beryl ‘Beryl I want to make a date tomorrow… …Over the past few days …few days… …I realized something… …tell you… …I realized something…. …something… she turned to see Beryl smiling brightly and she began to talk loudly to the people around her… "My boyfriend is going to propose to me!!" she sang happily. *No it can't be true can it? He was smiling happily when he walked away…is he going to propose to her? He loves her? All this time he was just pretending with me? Pretending to care for me…to hold me in my desperate time…it was all a lie? It had to be….NOOOOOO! This is the last straw…I can't take it anymore,* unshed tears ran down her cheeks. Clutching her head she tried to block out the memory yet it failed as she heard it repeat over and over in her mind…in her soul… …I realized something… …My boyfriend is going to propose… …tell you… but as the memory replayed itself over and over in her head the past…the memories of loneliness that she desperately tried to hide…to forget replayed itself in her mind …Darien I don't love you anymore… …promise… …it was a joke… …hope you have a miserable relationship… …let me tell you a story… …how can I forgive you?… …You broke my heart… …I don't want anything to do with you… …I didn't know you and Beryl were going out… …I realized something… …he's going to propose to me… Everything…everything replayed in her mind over and over again causing tears to fall down her face harder...*I can't take this anymore...I have to get away…away from here… no more. Sorry Mina…Andrew…but I can't stand it here anymore. I know I'm a lousy friend but it hurts…it hurts soooo much…Darien…he hurt me so much. Noooo more!!!!* she thought as she stopped her sobs and silently walked out of the restaurant into the cold night. No one noticed that she was gone until it was too late. Too late for Regrets After the reception, a couple of hours later, her friends began to get worried about her. Not that they weren't worried about her when she suddenly disappeared. Yet they had no choice but to sit there and continue with the reception. Darien paced back and forth the whole night after discovered that she could not be found. One clue was provided for them for someone said they saw the bride's maid crying but they thought it was from happiness. "Where could she have gone," Darien said angrily. "Leaving in the middle of the the wedding reception…what was that girl thinking?" unexpectedly the answer to Darien's question would be answered sooner then he thought. "The last time I saw her was when I sent her to get you after you wandered off somewhere," Greg replied. Soon there was seven angry figures walking toward Darien. "What the hell are you thinking?" demanded Andrew as he grab his friend by the shoulder. "Why? How could you do this to Serena? How could you tear her up," Raye asked angrily. "It was you! Your damn fault for her leaving. You will pay…pay for every pain that she felt," Seiya yelled about to give a punch into Darien's face. "Wait…wait…what are you guys so mad about?" Darien asked angrily. Before he could continue Seiya gave him a hard punch in the stomach. "What are we so mad about?" Ami cried out. "You…you…we were saying good bye to the last guest and do you want to know what they said?" "You stupid inconsiderate fool! Why were you going to propose to Beryl?" Lita angrily asked about to give him another punch. "Isn't it enough? What do you want to do? Rip out what's left in her heart?" "Nooo….I never proposed to Beryl. How could I when I love Serena?" started Darien. "Yeah…well apparently you had proposed to her because she was telling everyone around her that you were going to marry her after you finished talking to her," Chad said coldly. "The talk? I never said anything about proposing or wanting to marry her…that son of a bi---. How could she? I was simply telling her that I wanted to talk to her tomorrow to tell her it's over. I love Serena…and that…that annoying stupid a-had to go and start that. Serena…I have to find her…where is she?" Darien finished leaving eight stunned faces. "It's too late," replied Greg. "What do you mean Greg?" asked Raye sadly. "While everyone was busy accusing Darien I called her parent house. Apparently she has left…moved…whatever you can call it but she's gone forever. Her parents got a phone call from her and she explained everything…including the fact that she would leave forever never coming back here. She said she left a note for everyone at Mina's house and one for Darien at his office…wait Darien you might want to hear the rest before you rush out. No one knows where she is…not even her parents although she did promise to call her family to tell them that she was safe whenever she got to wherever she may be. It seems that it was too late…Mina you were right…she's gone forever." Finished Greg as ten figures rush out the door. A group of nine went to Mina's apartment one making his way to his office. The car trip was in complete silence as everyone thought about their life long friend…their friend that was always happy and cheerful…their friend that had lost her light. As they made their way to Mina's apartment afraid of what they might find, only a letter was taped on the front of her door. Yanking it off and rushing into her apartment…the letter read… Dear Mina, Andrew, Greg, Amy, Lita, Ken, Raye, Chad, and Seiya, I know I left in a hurry and didn't even say good bye…I couldn't stand it here anymore…especially after hearing that Darien proposed to Beryl. Whatever was left of my heart broke. I'm so sorry. I know I've never been the best of friend to anyone of you…only bringing you my worries, always troubling you with my pains, I've been a horrible friend. Well, now I have left…probably the best for all of us. Mina please don't let this ruin your wedding…don't let my leaving ruin your happiness…if I know that I caused more pain for anyone else it would kill me. I suffered a lot since I got back here and I just can't…I can't live here anymore. Some place far away is what I need… forever. A place that I will forget him…but not any of you guys. So instead of mopping around and crying about my leaving please smile…it's the last thing that you could all do for me…it's the only thing that I wish I could do. With Love To All, Serena Tsukino P.S. Don't blame any of this on him. It wasn't his choice but mine. Wish him happiness for me. Love you all! As the whole group read the letter they couldn't accomplish Serena's goodbye wish…no one could smile…not when they knew that a young women was on a plane going somewhere. Yet she never blamed Darien for what he had done but wished him happiness…happiness for a future without her. At the same time as the group was reading the letter…Darien made it to his office safely something amazing for someone who was driving over the speed limit by 100 and not bothering to stop when the lights flash red. As he quickly walked in his room and turned on the lights there liyng in the center of his desk was an envelope. Shakily he opened it to find a letter but as he pulled it out…a ring…a ring with a pink gemstone fell out. It ripped his heart as he picked it up. It was the ring that he thought was lost forever. He quickly opened up the letter and began reading it as silent tears of pain fall down his face. Hi Darien, Love, My Sweetie Pie… I love you Darien…all my life you were the one and only person that I could have cherished with all my soul even though you constantly hurt me never…never in my heart did I hate you. I want you to know that what I did six years ago was for you. I know I hurt you but it tore my heart to tell you lies…lies that I didn't love you. In my heart, I know it will never be true. What I did was letting you go…your dreams were my dreams and when you decided to wait and see if you could stay you were letting your dreams go…our dreams go. I will not and never will let myself be in the way of anything…don't you understand I love you so much that I let you go?? Maybe this was the cause of all the pain…I loved you too much. The day when I peeked through my window and saw you toss our ring behind you was the day I knew my heart was shattered forever. As much pain as it was I knew that the ring was worth hours of looking for…it gave me company on lonely weekends. Not only that but it reminded me that you once love me…and that thought bought me happiness….to once be loved by you. I wish that it could be true but I know it will never come true. You have fallen in love with Beryl and I was just something from the past. I couldn't stand to stay here in your presence knowing that you loved someone else…knowing that you don't love me anymore. I know I should blame you, should hate you with all my heart yet I know deep down I could never. Why I may never know. When you put me through hell when I got back, there was lots of times I wish I never knew you. Never met you but thinking back to everything we had six years ago. The memories of our love (yes memories). When we were on top of the world, I knew that if I never met you then my life was never really complete even it was the cost of my broken heart now. I know I would never regret knowing you, caring for you, or loving you. But now I'm leaving...leaving to forget you forget the pains that you have caused. And the scar that will heal yet never disappear from my heart. With all my love I wish you have a great future full of love and happiness even if it means without me. Forever Your Meatball Head, Serena Tsukino P.S. I love you… *It's too late for regrets,* Darien thought bitterly as he clutched the dull ring in his hand tightly and let out a loud, blood curling scream… "SERENA!!!!!!!!!!" It echoed throughout the hospital yet the one that was supposed to hear it…never did. *THIS IS AN AUTHOR NOTE THAT IS WORTH READING* The end for now! Hi!
