PS…the text inbetween the *** are part of a song from Les Miserables. She was tired, but she was also restless. She had to get out. Usagi did just that. Wrapped up in a homemade knit shawl, she stepped out into the cool night air and walked briskly to the park near her house. Usagi came here often, usually to clear her mind when something was amiss. Her favorite place was the bench right under a weeping willow. And the view? It was absolutely spectacular. All green in the daylight and bluish-silver was the landscape under the light of the moon. There was even a fountain, a small one, but a fountain nevertheless. The sound of it gurgling and bubbling somehow soothed and calmed her. But at that moment, the sky hung overcast and a frigid breeze nipped at her. Longing to rest her tired feet, she looked hopefully in the direction of the small white-washed bench. It was already taken. she thought. Usagi sighed and was ready to start the journey back to her house, when curiosity got the better of her and she squinted at the direction of the stranger, just as the moon came out of its silvery silver-tinted misty cloud cover. The perpetrator was handsome: dark with black hair and a deep tan and very tall, for somehow, he sensed her presence and immediately stood up and walked briskly away, the mist of night enveloping him. ***I saw him once, then he was gone We were like dreamers at night, who meet in a trance then part again. two phantoms in the shadow of the moon. Can people really fall in love so soon?*** As if in a daze, Usagi walked over to the now unoccupied bench and sat down. Her mind was crowding with one single thought. she asked herself. She kept on pondering oh this question until a yawn caught her. "Gosh I'm tired," she said aloud. "Maybe I should go back, I mean I do have choir tomorrow, and I can't miss anymore practices. Otherwise, I'll totally be out of the concert for sure!" The young woman started to get up, then sat back down again. "Oh what the heck. Maybe for just a few minutes longer..."She closed her eyes for a minute, then opened it. "Dawn is coming up, I really better go..." "Don't go, just yet," a deep voice interjected. Usagi spun around, right into a pair of deep blue eyes. "Who...who are you?" she stuttered. "Gomen," he started, "I didn't mean to startle you. My name is Chiba Mamoru. And what, may I ask is yours?" "I'm Tuskino Usagi," she replied with a smile. "May I?" Mamoru gestured to the bench. "Oh, um, sure! Here," she said as she made room for him on the bench. Silence came upon the two as they stared at one another in awe. He was the first to break it. "So...do you always come here at this hour?" Usagi tried to lower her gaze from his penetrating eyes, but failed. "Oh, no. I just came out here to get some fresh air. I...I have some problems at home, so I thought I'd take a walk," she stated. she scolded herself. However, her acquaintance didn't seem to mind. "Really? Me too. This garden is so much more relaxing that the lonely air in my apartment," he stated. "Oh, don't you have any family?" she said, then regretted it seeing the painful look in his eyes. she thought, she reprimanded herself. "No," was the reply. "Gomen, Chiba-san. I shouldn't have been so personal," she said contritely. "It's ok. It happened a long time ago anyways. Both of my parents died in a plane crash you see, and so I got placed in a hospital, then in an orphanage. I think the only thing that helped me cope was a little girl who gave me a rose and said that it was going to be all right. And it's Mamoru if you don't mind. I hate all this formality stuff. Just Mamoru." Usagi smiled. "Then call me Usagi." "It's a deal," he said, and they shook on it. "A little girl…" Usagi said drifting into her past memories. Then, a thought crossed her mind. "Hey, was that little girl, did she have blonde hair?" Usagi asked. "Yeah, now that you mentioned it. Actually, she looked a lot like you come to think of it," Mamoru thought out loud. She grinned. "That's because it was me." "Wow, really? Who would've thought? So you were the one who kept me from being depressed. Thank you. Thanks a lot," he said with obvious sincerity. Usagi just smiled. Without warning, he leaned over and kissed her. The kiss was warm and tender. She was surprised at first, but then she let the feeling wash over her and kissed back. When they parted for air, he blushed and smiled sheepishly. "I'm sorry. I actually don't do this to every female I just meet." Mamoru said. "No, no…don't be. I…I…I love you." Usagi burst out. "You what?" he said. "I…I love you. I don't know why…I just met you. I can't…" the blond said as she looked down, obviously embarrassed. "Shhh, shhh." Mamoru soothed as he stroked her hair. "I think I'm falling in love with you too. Close your eyes, I want to show you something." The blue-eyed woman did so, but she opened her eyes…she was back in her room. Her room? That couldn't be! Usagi leaned over her side of her bed and bumped her head as she did. "SHIT!" she cursed. Yep. It was her room all right. All pink with bunnies. "Darn. That was just a dream?" she moaned to no one in particular. Her kitty at the foot of her bed, Luna, opened one sleepy eye. "Yep, it was just a dream…" Usagi murmured as she turned over to dream about her prince some more.
