Serena's alarm clock suddenly made a continuous loud beep. "Aw," she moaned. "5 more minutes of sleep." She closed her eyes and suddenly saw Darien's face. She shot straight up. She couldn't help but remember seeing Darien telling about the mystery songwriter suddenly being known. Also, the dread in her stomach was still very vivid in her mind. She never thought Darien would find out. But life was full of surprises! This was one surprise she didn't like. How had Darien actually find out? 'Okay, think Serena! Who knew I was the mystery songwriter? NOBODY DID! 'Wait,' she thought. Andrew knew! What could happen when Andrew and Darien were best friends? Only what she dreaded with all her might. Andrew must have spilled the beans to Darien, and he must be laughing at her, cause now he knows! She wanted to scream, but that would wake up her mom. Well now she was really mad at Andrew. 'What did he think he was doing? Why can't he keep our promise? We are going to have a little discussion, more like where I scream his head off!' After she had a moment to cool down, she looked down at the clock. It was 6:30. She grabbed some clothes and went to take her shower.***************************************************** Darien opened his eyes before his alarm clock even buzzed. Gosh, even though he was a light sleeper, it was not the reason he was up earlier than normal. He was just so eager today. Here he was going to tell Serena she won, and he wasn't sure what to do next. It all depended on Serena's reaction. It was just totally foreign for him to be in *love* with a girl. Sure, girls like him, and he thought they were pretty. He just didn't think he would ever fall for one of them. 'Well, all he could hope for was that she didn't more frightened than what she was yesterday. He couldn't stay lying awake in his bed any longer. He had to get a shower, and he was restless. He gathered up his clothes in 2 seconds flat and ran into the bathroom. ***************************************************** Serena entered the school's parking lot, got out of her car, entered the school building and went to her locker. She spun the lock open and dropped her stuff in. She started walking around the school when she spotted Andrew. Finally, this was her chance to yell at him. She sped up to catch him; he was not going to get away with what he did. She tapped him on the shoulder with all her fingers to get his attention. As soon as he turned around to her she started talking, more like between yelling and talking. She didn't want to yell cause she would get everybody's attention. "What did you think you were doing telling--" Suddenly she stopped when she heard Darien's voice. "Hey ya guys," he greeted. "What's up?" apparently not noticing the argument he interrupted. 'Thank goodness; I never knew Serena could get that mad.' He saw this as his chance to escape. "Well, you guys, I have to get to class." With that, Andrew ran to get away from Serena's glare. He would let Darien deal with her. "Hey Sere, how bout me and you walk to class together?" "Sure," she reluctantly agreed. She would chew Andrew out later. On their way to history, Darien couldn't stop talking. "Sere, I'm going to announce her name today, isn't that great?" he eagerly asked. 'Aw, just great,' she thought. 'Well, he better not announce it. It's all Andrew's fault.' This got her even angrier. "Man, I'm excited," he continued, "she's going to be part of our band. Gee, this is so majorly cool." 'Not to me,' she thought. Luckily they were right near the classroom. Serena rushed in to get away from Darien talking nonstop about the mystery songwriter. "Class," the teacher directed, "get in your seats." The tardy bell rang, and immediately following came the announcements over the intercom system. The principal started it with the pledge of allegiance, then talked about what special event was happening today. "Today, we'll have the dance that announces the winner of the star search contest. You will have an activity schedule which means that your classes will be shorter, and the dance will start at 1:30 and the dance will end at 2:55." 'Ugh, more bad news,' she thought. 'Now I have to stay there. How bad can it get?' ***************************************************** 'Yes, lunch time, now I can find Andrew, chew him out, and I'll feel much better.' She walked towards the cafeteria with her lunch bag in hand. 'Now, where could Andrew be?' She looked all over the room, at all the tables, and the doorway. She couldn't find him till she saw him coming out of the lunch line with his tray. 'Time for us to have a little discussion.' As soon as Andrew walked near her, she walked after him. Andrew hadn't even noticed her yet. 'Hmm... well, he's in for a surprise,' Serena thought to herself. She stepped right in front of Andrew, and he suddenly noticed her. He was just about to run away, but she wasn't about to let that happen. She grabbed his shoulder and directed him to the nearest empty table. "Andrew, we gotta talk NOW," she said through clenched teeth. "But, uh, I gotta eat," he explained, trying to squirm his way out of their discussion. "Nope, no way, we can talk and you can eat," she explained. "Now, Andrew, why did you tell Darien our little secret?" she asked. Before Andrew could answer, Raye, Mina, Amy, and Lita appeared. 'Oh, just great. I was going to get my answers out of Andrew. But now I can't. Gosh, what is with this? Is someone up there saying, "interrupt Serena while she's talking to Andrew?"' "Hey Sere," all the girls greeted. "You'll never believe what happened Serena," Raye said excitedly. But Serena already had a guess. They were going to tell her how there was talk that the mystery songwriter girl had been revealed, and she was going to be announced today. "What?" she asked, trying to sound more excited than she really was. "Well, today at the dance, they're going to announce the mystery songwriter." 'Yep, I was right,' Serena thought. "Darien has been searching all over; you couldn't imagine how excited he is." Just then Darien came to the table and set his lunch down. "Hey you guys, can you believe we found the mystery songwriter?" "Nope, not at all," the girls answered. Darien looked at Serena's reaction and saw that she was trying to keep a straight face. She was clenching her fists, and gritting her teeth. 'Ooh, she is getting really mad, about ready to boil,' he thought. "So Sere, are you going to the dance?" Mina asked. "Yeah, I guess I have to," she said dejectedly. Darien poked her in the side. "Hey Sere, save a dance for me, okay?" "Um, I'm not so sure Dare." "Please, just for me," he pleaded with puppy eyes. "Oh, I can never resist the puppy eyes, so yes," she agreed. 'Jeez, he is just doing this cause I'm the mystery songwriter. Ugh, this gets me mad.' The bell rang, which was the signal for them to go to their class. "Come on Sere," the girls urged. All the girls went to science for 6th period. She couldn't stop thinking about what had happened at lunch. Darien had asked her to a dance. 'What was with that? He can't have feelings for me can he? Nope, of course not.' Hey, maybe she could pretend she was sick, that would work. But she wasn't any good at faking, and sooner or later Darien was going to confront her. She had really gotten herself in a mess. She just had to wait for the dance to see how it was going to go. ***************************************************** Darien's 6th period Gosh, what had he done at lunch? He kept on spooking Serena out. He wanted to get the point across, that he really liked her. He now understood why he liked both girls, cause they were the same person. He kept on scaring her, and that wasn't helping her realize he had a crush on her. At the dance, he was going to make it all clear to her, and maybe then she would understand. ***************************************************** 7th period Oh, my, one more period to the dance. Ah, she was sweating and couldn't stop it. She brushed her hair behind her ear, cause that was all that she could do. She sat down at her desk and tried to concentrate. It was NOT working for her. 'Eek, how am I going to last another 40 minutes before the dance?' This wasn't easy for her. "One more period," she kept on whispering. ***************************************************** Darien's 7th period 'Yes!' he cheered. 'One more period, and then the dance! Yippee!' He couldn't stop from feeling hyper. Here in 40 minutes he was going to tell Serena all that he felt. Now, he just had to wait the 40 minutes, and that was the hard part. ***************************************************** What had been bad for Serena last period was even worse now. She sped to her locker because she didn't know what else to do. A few people were at their lockers too, but she just spun the dial quickly, and opened her locker. She dumped all her books and started walking around the corner. Darien just slowly walked out of the class, and went to his locker. Now he was starting to feel a tad bit nervous. He had butterflies in his stomach, and felt kind of queasy, but knew that would all pass once he talked to Serena. He opened his locker and dropped his books in. 'Now, it's time to go to the dance.' He walked a faster pace than before and entered the gym. Serena was just walking around the halls not caring where she was ending up. Somebody suddenly bumped into her. 'Gosh, for once Serena wasn't being a klutz'. She looked to see who she had bumped into when she saw it was Mina. "Ooh, Serena, it's you. Good, anybody else would scream at me," she merrily told Serena. "Hey, come on we gotta go to the dance," Mina urged. "Let's go Sere." She grabbed Serena's hand and started to run, but Serena stopped her feet. "Uh, Mina, you just go on," she tried to excuse herself from going to the dance, but Mina wasn't going to have that. "Nope, you're coming," she ordered. She dragged Serena to the dance. 'Well, I'll just avoid Darien,' she thought. There was no way to do what Serena planned to do, cause Serena and Mina ran right into Darien. 'Maybe he won't notice us,' Serena thought hopefully. No such luck, cause Darien was coming towards them. In a few seconds Darien was by her side. 'Is he going to ask me to dance?' she wondered. She didn't have any more time to think, because Andrew had came on the stage and spoke into the microphone, and asked for everybody's attention. "Well, the Star Search Contest has officially ended. We finally found our winner. Even though she might not be thrilled to come up, we ask that when we call her name; she will be willing enough to sing her brilliant song for all ya guys. Do you guys want to know who the girl is?" he asked the crowd. They all screamed yes. "Now our mystery songwriter is no other than the stupendous, magnificent, awesome, amazing..." he paused to add suspense. "It is... Serena Tsukino!" he screamed. 'He did it,' she was in complete awe. She couldn't believe he did it. Did she have to come up" Suddenly Darien picked up her hand. He gave it a little squeeze and whispered in her ear, "Please Serena, do it for me," he pleaded. She looked deep in his eyes and saw he wanted her to do it, but she wasn't sure if she was able to do it. "Here, grab my hand," he softly directed. She was all in a daze after that. He was leading her up to the stage, she jerked his hand. "We can't do this Darien," she pleaded. "Yes, you can Serena," he told her. Now they were on the stage, and microphone was being passed to her. Darien slung his guitar over his shoulder and moved to a microphone. Serena knew now she couldn't show any fear. She had to do it. She wasn't about to back down now. She brought the microphone close to her lips, and started to sing the powerful lyrics. The crowd was applauding the whole time. But what kept her going was Darien was near her. She just looked at him, and she no longer got scared. The way he looked at her made her want to melt, but she just kept on singing. Soon enough the song was over, and another song was about to begin. She saw Darien whispering something in Andrew's ear. 'What could that be'? Darien came towards Serena and grabbed her hand. "Where are we going?" she asked. "I'm going to dance with you," he simply answered. "But Darien," she started to argue when Darien interrupted her. "NO buts Serena, you said you would dance with me, and that's what we're going to do." Darien brought her among the crowd of dancers and brought her in his arms. She was unsure of what to do next. "Just put your arms on my shoulder; we're just going to move in slow circles," he told her. She hesitantly put her arms on his shoulder, while he put his arms around her waist and brought her even closer. "Serena, he started, why didn't you want to be known?" She sighed. "Because, I'm not good enough for you. You deserve someone better, like Brittany Spears. Just like you said," she told him softly. "No Serena, you got it all wrong. I want you. You're my Brittany Spears. You're beautiful, and talented. What makes you think you aren't?" "Just because," she told him. "Serena, do you even know how much I love you? I know why I fell in love with that mystery songwriter and that's because it's you." "But why?" she interrupted. "I just know I love you for your kindness. You're so sweet. He gently stroked her cheek with his thumb. "You really love me?" She asked in wonder. "Yeah," he replied. "I really do Serena." This just wanted to make her cry. They continued to sway in circles. She could smell his cologne. 'Kind of like roses and vanilla.' She started to focus on the words of the song that wasplaying. Don't you ever wishYou were someone elseYou were meant to be The way you are exactlyDon't you ever sayYou don't like the way you are When you learn to love yourselfYou're better off by far And I hope you always stay the same Cause there's nothing about you that I would changeI think that you could be Whatever you wanted to beIf you could realizeAll the dreams you have inside Don't be afraidIf you've got something to say Just open up your heart and let it show you the way "And that's exactly how I feel about you Serena," Darienwhispered. "Don't you ever change either Darien," Serena whispered too. "I won't as long as you don't," Darien replied. "Cause I just love the way you are. "I've loved you for a long time Darien," she admitted. "Me too Serena, a very long time." Serena couldn't believe what he was saying. She stared in his eyes and saw that Darien really loved her, and Serena knew she really loved him. Darien was bringing his lips closer and closer until they finally pecked her lips. They stared into each others eyes and Darien kissed her again, a little longer this time. After a while Serena got the courage to respond. Just as Darien's lips were about to leave hers, Serena wrapped her arms around his neck and brought him close again. He started to kiss her deeply, and she started to give him a few kisses of her own. When they were both out of breath, they both whispered at the same time, "I love you." They both continued dancing, not a care in the world. Serena suddenly realized she wasn't an outsider anymore, now that she had Darien. AN: Tada! Done! Finished! Was it bad, did it suck?
