As they reached the street corner Serena tried to gather her wits. "Well--uh--that was sure fun once we got the--er--hang of it--well--we should maybe do it again sometime?--Wow look at the time--I gotta go!" She turned to hurry off but he caught her arm and turned her back around. "Serena--I--" He took her by the shoulders and looked into her eyes, trying desperately to recall the sensation from the rink--nothing had ever felt familiar to him before. "I feel--" He began slowly and she felt herself frozen by his beautiful deep blue eyes (AN: who wouldn't be? siiiigh) But suddenly he fell, turning very pale, and fainted dead away in her arms. "Darien!" She shrieked, "Darien!" Queen Serenity sighed sadly. ~Oh no. He's older then she is--and he doesn't have the powers of the other planets....this is hard on him.! She focused her energy on him. ~Sweet Endymion...wake for my daughter.~ Darien's eyes fluttered slowly open. A hazy outline of Serena's figure bent over him reminded him so much of someone else that the word just fell out of him, "Princess?" "Huh?" She replied bewildered. He tried to pull himself dazedly up but she was supporting him heavily. She brushed the hair from his eyes and was nearly overcome by a wave of deja-vu. "Whoa..." He steadied himself, hands on her shoulders and tried to focus his eyes, "What's...happening to us?" He managed to half-gasp out. "I don't know! Oh Darien! Darien are you alright?" Ohhhh!" She led him over to sit down on a bench and gathered him into her arms. "Darien, are you sick?" "No--I just...I feel so strange....as though I...I can't remember...but I...Serena.." He focused his full attention on her face and seemed to regain himself as her hands closed around his as he caressed her face, fearful tears running down her cheeks. "Serena, you seem so familiar to me...I can't figure out why..." She gazed up at him with soulful blue eyes and he was caught, captivated and lost forever to that expression in their depths. That silent question. He answered it with his lips. Serena's eyes widened in shock. ~He's kissing me? Why is he kissing me? I thought he hated me?! Wait...why does this feel... ....familiar?~ She jerked away in sudden fright. "I-I have to go." she stuttered out and ran off. Darien simply stared after her. There was a strange expression in the depth of his eyes... Queen Serenity frowned....~Oh no...~ ~He remembers...~ Darien stood slowly, dazedly. Memories still running over him, sending strange, hot shocks up his spine. Queen Serenity did her best to ease the assault. ~Oh no...now I've really done it...poor Endymion...~ He managed to steady himself. His thoughts were spinning strangely. Queen Serenity watched him all the way home. He sat staring at nothing for hours....remembering...and then trying vainly to tie his memories to the present reality. Serena, Princess Serenity.....Sailormoon... "My God..." He breathed. The dreams haunting his nights were of the very same girl he smashed almost every morning and rescued almost every battle... And on the moon, a thousand years ago, she was a Princess, and they were lovers... He felt such joy at remembering, at recovering himself in some way....piecing together his scattered identities. ~At last...at last I know who I am...~ But then his face fell. ~Serena doesn't remember.~ And the loneliness amiliar to him returned again in a different way. His heart silently called out for her...as it had so many times before...and then he laid back in defeat. But many blocks away, in her room, Serena stood with a gasp. She threw on clothes and a coat and ran out into the night towards Darien's apartment, forgetting all about her long hair, brushed down from it's odangos--streaming after her--the time--everything but the sensation of Darien calling for her--without words, without sound, without touch. She thumped urgently on his door. He opened it groggily and gasped. Serena stood outside breathing heavily. Her long hair reaching to the floor, her eyes fearful and curious at the same time. "Serena...?! What are you doing here?" She shook her head, "I don't know-I-I just--I swear I heard you--oh nevermind I'm losing it." She turned to leave but he caught her arm, "You heard me call for you?" He said in a tone that indicated he *had* called for her. She turned back incredulously, "You....did? How did you--?" He pulled her inside. "I don't know Serena. I--we--I think we have some kind of connection." He managed feebly. He sat her down on his couch and went to the kitchen, "Here, sit down. I'll make cocoa." She sat silently. Trying to collect her thoughts. Trying to sort out the changes of the past few weeks. But most of all Darien. He entered with two cocoa's and she looked up as he passed it to her, beautiful blue eyes half-frightened. He tripped and nearly spilt hs mug as he sat down. They sat silent a moment. Darien was unsure of what to say. Finally Serena spoke up softly, "Why did you kiss me?" "Huh?" "Why did you...kiss me...I thought you hated me?" He sighed, "Serena, I never hated you." "But you always teased me for being stupid and clumsy..." "I just...I teased yoou because I...was afraid..." "Afraid of what?" "Of the strong feelings you brought uot in me--ever since we met, that first moment I felt something so strongly. It scared me so I-I pushed you away...I'm sorry." It was easier to confess and make sense of now that he remembered. She stared at him in surprise. He was being completely honest and she knew it. She moved closer to him, "I felt the same way." She confessed and he choked with surprise, "How's that?" "Well, I fought back and even if you weren't teasing me I yelled because I was so afraid I might like you." "Why were you afraid to like me Serena?" "Oh come off it Darien, why *not*?! You're a handsome, intelligent High School student with girls falling all over you! I didn't think you'd want anything to do with *me*--a klutzy, scatterbrained junior high girl! And besides, I didn't want to be just another one of the girls fawning all over you." He smiled at her, "I didn't think you'd ever forgive me. I thought you hated me and just thought I was a jerk." She laughed playfully, "Awww, you're too cute to be a *total* jerk!" Then she blushed with embarrassment. He chuckled. Then he reached over--unable to resist the urge to touch her hair, "Where are your odangos?" Her eyes widened as he touched her hair, "Ohh, I had them out when--when you..." "Oh." He replied. "How did you...??" "I don't know Serena. Sometimes it's like...I can read your thoughts." "I know. Me too." She said. He moved over to sit right next to her, cocoa from her hand so he could grasp it. She caught her breath. "Serena I--I'm sorry for how I've acted in the past. Can we be friends?" She gazed up at his face a moment. Shaky, because she could tell he wanted to kiss her--that he was fighting back the urge... She smiled, "Of course I forgive you. I would love to be your friend." She kissed him on the cheek, a long warm kiss and she could feel his reaction--it was very strange--and beautiful. "I should go..." She breathed softly. "I'll walk you home..." He replied. They walked quietly. Serena slipped her hand into Darien's and he was content. But as they walked his thoughts began to form a plan. Serena didn't remember. But now he realized, she was regaining her Princess ablilities--just as he was regaining his Prince ones--from a thousand years before. He couldn't make her remember--*but*, he *did* know all the things Princess Serenity had enjoyed and excelled at. He could invite her to do them and romance her all over again. He grinned. ~Excellent plan.~ ~And now I can have a lot more fun with Tuxedo Mask too....~ They reached her house and she turned to go but her stopped her. "Serena?" "hmm?" "Do you wanna go out tomorrow?" "Sure, where to?" "I dunno, maybe...uh..." ~Think Darien think...~ "To the park?" "Okay." She replied easily. "Do you have rollarskates?" "Uh huh." "Bring those. I'll bring the rest!" She smiled, "Okay. Well, g'night Darien." He stopped her again and stepped closer, fighting back the urge to bury his face in her soft hair and cry out how much he'd missed her.. "Can you forgive me for kissing you? I had no right--" She silenced him with a finger to his lips and stepped even closer, closing the distance between them, "I don't know why there's a connection between us...." she said softly, "But I'm glad..." He smiled and gently brushed stray strands of gold from her face, "G'night Serena." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~* *
