The Rewritting of a Legend Special by Rain Ayo Few Days Before ( Just after Ami got him out of the hospital ) Ami knelt by the table in the midst of medical reports, notes from her advanced biology classes, and her small computer. She pushed her glasses up her nose a bit. Titling her head to the side, she picked up yet another medical report. Zoisite stood silently in the doorway watching her. He was trying to get all of this to make sense. It wasn't really that easy. How can he believe such an insane story when he doesn't even remember his name? "Ami," he said to get her attention. She turned absentmindedly. Her glasses slipping down her nose again. "Hmm?" she mumbled. For a moment Zoisite paused, realizing, just how beautiful she was. The way a strand of hair was falling down her in her face. How her blue eyes sparkled with intelligence and wisdom. How her glasses, which were now slowly slipping down her nose, had probably on more than one occasion, been used to cover her emotions. "How much of this do you believe?" he asked. "Well it's not all that logical. Magic powers are just not possible. How is it possible that we lived and died over 1000 years ago? It's all farfetched," she said. "Yet it's real. You do have magical powers. I don't know about the life a 1000 years ago, but it does seem possible," he said. "I wish I could explain it," Ami said stubbornly. "Don't you just believe in something? Don't you have some kind of faith?" he asked. "No. That's just the way I am," she said. He went and sat down beside her. "I think that, yeah sure, it's not the easiest thing to understand and make compute, but it feels right. Kinda like somewhere in my mind I remember that," he said. "You may think it strange, but that's what I feel." "You have a right to think what you like," she said. "I just like to find logic in things. That's where the scientist in me comes out." "I suppose," he said. They sat silently for a while. Ami looked down at her computer and began typing. Zoisite picked up one of the medical reports. The title read: The Questions in "Miracle" Healing. He picked up a piece of loose leaf and noticed they were notes on the lymph system. "So the scientist comes through once again. You just didn't like not knowing why I was able to heal so fast," he said. "Not just you. I did the same thing. There's something about our bodies that is different from normal," she said. "Well obviously. These powers must go beyond offensive magic," he said. "Or in my case defensive," she put in. "There's you answer," he said. She continued to type. "Hmm," was her response to him. "I had hoped you weren't like that," he said annoyed. "You really do think anyone who believes in any religion is crazy. Your just as emotionless as your computer." He got up and walked out. She watched him leave with shock written all over her face. 'Emotionless? I...that's not true!' she thought. She stared at the door he'd escaped through, in shock. ******************************************************** Nephrite came into the living room to see Makoto still in front of the television. She had a cute smile on her face as she watched some romance movie. He bumped into a chair, making Makoto look up. "Am I keeping you up?" she asked. "No. I wasn't tired," he said. "What about you?" "This is my favorite movie. I just wanted to watch it," she said. "What's it about?" he asked as he plopped himself down beside her. "This woman is obsessed with finding her soul-mate. When she was younger she'd asked a fortune teller about him. The fortune teller told her his name was Damon Bradley...( fill in later )" She looked at him when she finished and he had a strange expression on his face. "What?" she asked, thinking that perhaps she'd done something. He smiled. "Did anyone ever tell you how beautiful you are?" he asked. She blushed a deep red. He chuckled slightly at her response. "You are. You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen." He smiled broadly and looked at the television screen. Makoto looked at him as she tried to stop her heart from fluttering madly. He sat there in a pair of sweatpants and no shirt. He flung his long dark hair over his shoulder. He was extremely handsome, she enjoyed talking to him and he was the only person who had ever made her feel like she was something special. She felt so different now that he said that. She felt like she couldn't possibly be the same person. Who she was before was never that beautiful. She looked at the television. It was her favorite part. ( Fill in later )... "Oh I love this part," Makoto said. "Those two are so romantic." ( Again fill in later )... Makoto smiled at the television. Nephrite glanced out of the corner of his eye at her. It was strange that even in the odd glow from the television made her look more beautiful than before. He surprised himself at how forward he had been with her, but he couldn't help himself. He loved to see her smile, hear her laugh, feel how smooth her hand felt compared to his rough one. He longed to kiss her, but was afraid to scare her away. Makoto, feeling a little brave herself, scooted closer to Nephrite. She rested her head on his shoulder and he looked down at her. 'I never thought I'd say this. I'm short!' her mind cried happily. She was feeling a little giddy from being this close to him. Her heart sang as she leaned up, pecked him on the cheek and then returned her head to it's resting place on his shoulder. He looked down at her again, this time in surprise. Her smiling shining face had to be more beautiful than anything the gods created. He wanted nothing more than to take her into his arms and tell her how much he never wanted to leave her side. He wanted to kiss her dizzy and tell her how the stars couldn't even compare to her beauty. He wanted...to tell her he loved her. Despite all of this, they were content with the small display of affection. It almost made everything seem out in the open. They snaked their arms around one another, drawing each other closer. ******************************************************** Kunzite sat at the kitchen counter alone in the darkness. Minako had long since gone off to bed. He was glad because he didn't want to worry her. He was too busy thinking about her. Minako came into his life all those years ago, like a bright beam of light. Her light shot through the darkness that was his life. Kunzite had always been one of those all work and no play types. He was very serious about what he did. After years of climbing to the top of his field, he'd finally reached the top. He'd become wealthy and was basically set for the rest of his life. His partner had forced him into some much needed vacation. That was just before his "disappearance". He learned after coming back that his partner had received an anonymous note, saying that he'd gone into hiding for a while. Also that his partner was right and he had needed a long vacation. His partner hadn't seemed to mind. He wished his friend luck and promised to keep their business alive as long as he was away. He wondered who sent the note, but he could guess that it was probably Minako. Just thinking about her made him realize just what his life had always been missing. Her charm and love seemed to light the world. It made everything she touched seem full of light and love. Just to be in the same room as her made all the troubles of the world seem non-existent. He felt like he was floating on air and he never wanted to come down. "Kunzite," a soft voice said drawing him back to reality. He looked up to see Minako standing right in front of him. She smiled softly, melting him slowly. "What are you still doing up?" "I was just thinking," he said. "About what?" she asked. 'You, but how do I say that without sounding completely insane?' he asked himself. He decided against the direct truth. "The past." Her face softened to reflect the concern she felt. "You know that's not your fault," she said. He nodded. "I was thinking about how Beryl attempted to change me," he said. She placed her hands on top of his. He looked down at her hands rather than into her eyes which he feared might show her disgust. "It was the most painful experience I've ever experienced. She kept pounding on me with her magic, hoping that I would crack. I knew I couldn't. I couldn't turn on you like that. I...kept telling myself that I'd never turn and I'd never hurt you. I...wanted to believe that I'd be able to come back to you and..." He drifted off into silence and Minako watched him slowly start to crumble. She rushed to his side and held him in her arms. She felt tears well up in her eyes. Didn't he understand that she was too happy that he was back to care about what Beryl did to him, to them. All she wanted was to be with him. For him to love her, just like he had during the Silver Millenium. "Kunzite, whatever happened isn't important," she said softly as she stroked his hair soothingly. "All that matters to me is that you are safe here with me." He looked up at her, from his resting place on her shoulder. Her eyes shined with tears. He placed a hand on her cheek and wiped away the few straw tears that had managed to escape. "Minako...my heart...I love you," he said. "I didn't know you as much as I had wanted to, but in that short time you'd shown me so much. Shown me what life could be like if I stopped seeing everything as just black and white. You showed me all the colors of the world. I just wish I could give you something for what you've given me." Minako lowered her head and kissed him deeply. Kunzite felt as if her kiss seeped deeper and deeper inside him. Kissing his bones, his heart, his soul. When she finally drew back she smiled. "You have my love...you have and so much more," she said. He swooped her up into another kiss, holding onto her as if she would disappear at a moments notice. 'Gods don't let this moment end. Don't take our happiness away,' he thought to himself. ******************************************************** Being so close and yet so far away. Rei didn't want to admit that this was the same man she'd been in love with for over four years. She still wore his necklace underneath her clothes. It was a simple silver chain with a jade pendant. She never thought she'd see him again. Not after he vanished right before her eyes. After dating him for almost a year and a half, Rei was happier than she'd ever been in her life. Jedite was so romantic and extremely patient. He'd taken the time to woe her and make her fall head over heels to his charms. The last she'd seen of him for almost a year was the day he'd given her the necklace. "As long as the sunrises in the east, will you love me?" he had asked her. "You know I will. There isn't anything as important in my life as you," she had told him. "Then wear this for me. So everyone will know how much we love one another," Jedite said. He put the necklace around her neck. He kissed her deeply and held her close. Tears threatened to fall down while she waited for Jedite to return with their drinks. Her thoughts quickly turned to the last time she'd seen him before all the fighting started. He'd changed. One year ago, she didn't know why, but she'd sensed the evil in him. He'd been so cruel and he acted as if he didn't remember her. She knew now that it was Beryl, but she'd been crushed by that meeting. Despite all of that she'd never been able to stop loving him. Now she was able to forgive him for what he'd done. He didn't know her though. He didn't love her. So in order to protect herself and hide the pain, she'd fought with him. She felt horrible about it and felt even worse when Usagi had started to yell at them. Now she just wanted to crawl into a hole and die. Jedite watched Rei's mood change from bad to worse. He didn't know what to do. He knew that she was hiding her tears from him. He suspected that perhaps she was worried about fighting Beryl, but it occured to him that she was more than prepared for the fight and probably not afraid either. So he didn't really know what was wrong. All he did know was that it broke his heart to see her like that. He wished that she didn't hate him so much. He didn't. He was far from hating her. She was beautiful, intelligent, and fiery. She was capable of making him feel completely and utterly incompitent. When they argued, he was always made the fool. His arguements never came out right and Rei always seemed to have the last laugh. He knew he loved her. It was something he'd felt since the moment he'd seen her. It was like a memory resurfacing just looking into her beautiful violet eyes. The moment he'd seen her for the first time it had been like a revelation hit him. It made everything Minako had told them true. He was hers and perhaps she would be his again. It was something he knew he'd had, but somehow lost. "Rei, what's wrong?" he asked gently. Rei looked up at him with shock and fear in her eyes. Glistening tears nearly fell as she looked at him. 'His face. Just like before. I can't take much more of this. I want you back Jedite!' her mind cried. "It's...it's nothing," she said aloud. Jedite rushed to her side. "No. You wouldn't be near tears if it were nothing," he said as he sat down beside her. She remained silent and wouldn't look at him. He gently placed a hand on hers. She pulled back suddenly. She shot up and said, "Maybe I should go." "Why?" he asked. "It's still early." "Well I have homework to do," she said trying to come up with an excuse. "I thought you said you have the next two weeks off," he said. "You'll have plenty of time." 'Just stay!' he concluded silently. "I want a head start," Rei said. "Don't go," Jedite said desperatly. "Please stay." She finally looked at him. "Why?" she asked. Her despair fueling her anger. "Do you want to argue some more?" "No! I know you'll win in the end," he said. She turned away. "I'm sorry for snapping Jedite," she said. "There are a lot of things going on in my mind. I shouldn't take it out on you. It's not your fault. "What's not my fault?" he asked. She turned slowly towards him. He could now see that she held in a clenched fist a necklace charm. The necklace was still around her neck. "It's not your fault you don't remember me. Or our promise," she said as she opened her fist to reveal the small stone of jade. Jedite's eyes widened as he saw it. The final piece of the puzzle fit in and he could see what he knew was true. A wave of relief hit him as the remaining memories resurfaced. His Rei. His beautiful, kindhearted Rei. The same girl he pledged to love for the rest of his life. He jumped up and pulled her into his embrace. "I knew it. I knew all along," he said. "I've never stopped loving you Rei." His tone quickly switched to one of concern as he gently carassed her cheek. The black memories filled his mind. "I'm so sorry Rei. I couldn't stop her. She was so strong, but I was always there. It was the hardest thing for me to do, when I sat back and watched my imposter attack you. I'll do anything for you, my heart. Anything I can to make up for all I've done," he said. Rei's eyes brightened and she smild. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she said, "Love me. Love me like you did before and all the bad memories will fade." "I'll love you more than I ever have," he swore. He kissed her fervently, relishing in how wonderful it was to hold her again. To have found the one thing that made him feel complete. There were no words to describe the joy they both shared at that moment. ******************************************************** This is how it's supposed to be. Great huh. I love the Rei and Jedite bit. That's my fave. And then definately the part about Makoto and Nephrite. Love it? Hate it? Rain
