Dressed in lace and silk. The picture bride but suddenly she'd look in the mirror and the dress would be black. Then everything transformed and she'd be at a funeral. Her Motoki's funeral, everyone was crying and she felt herself falling. Waking up Usagi wiped the sweat off her forehead. She didn't realize that she was crying until she felt the warm drops fall on her hand. She looked over at Motoki who was sleeping serenely, his chest rising up and down. How she loved him. He was leaving too soon, too fast. Pushing his bangs out of his face she watched his peaceful face. Suddenly as if it might keep him from leaving her Usagi kissed his forehead tenderly and then laid back to a hopefully unfitful sleep. ********************************************************************* Mamoru knocked on the door to Motoki's apartment and heard the sounds of loud, dancing music. The door opened and a smiling Motoki answered the door. Letting his friend in, Motoki sat back on the couch obviously tired from getting the door. Mamoru look sadly at the medicine bottles on the coffee table and he realized the only two months have passed. Time was going too fast for him. "How you feeling?"Mamoru asked his friend and poured his friend a glass of water from a pitcher when he noticed that his friend was coughing. Motoki took a drink. "Okay the days seem longer though", he said with a hint of melancholy in his voice. Mamoru bit his lip to stop any tears that might fall."Usagi's making me lunch" Suddenly a crash was heard from the kitchen and the sound of her singing rose. Motoki laughed loudly."Can you go check on her? Make sure she hasn't burned any part of my kitchen?" Mamoru nodded and walked off as he chuckled. Carefully he opened the kitchen door and watched as Usagi in boxer shorts and a T-shirt danced around the room. A wooden spoon in her hand she sang along with catchy tune. "She wants it, he got it! Cold-blooded, Hot gossip! Superficial expectation! Look at me! You can have it all because this face is free-" Usagi stopped to smile and pulled him in. Quickly getting sight of the game Mamoru wrapped one arm on her waist and took her other hand. They did a few quick dance steps and he twirled her around. Usagi squealed with delight and Mamoru quickly dipped her. Both of them laughed loudly. Their eyes met suddenly and she felt a shiver spread through her. There was something about his eyes that were so familiar and tursting. Mamoru realized how beautiful she was. The way her eyes were so radiant and were enlightened with some inner light that shone through out her. Her hair was long and like silk. The way the bangs brushed her eyes looked enchanting, goddess-like. "I didn't know you were much of a Geri Halliwell fan", he said softly. "She's okay", Usagi croaked and then noticed that Motoki stood at the doorway grinning at them. Usagi ran from Mamoru's arms and into Motoki's. He kissed her hair lovingly. Motoki saw how his friend was enraptured by Usagi and fully understood. It only occurred to him now that when he was gone they would only have each other. He realized what was happening and somehow it only made sense. *********************************************************************** Time passed and slowly Usagi saw that her time with Motoki was going fast. His condition had only worsened and now he was so weak that he couldn't even walk sometimes. The medication he used was doubled and she knew he was pain even though he refused to worry. Motoki however remained the eternal optimist, he never complained and always had a smile for his girlfriend. His only regret was that he had taken up most of her time and she had dropped out of her college because of her low scores. The two were always together and sometimes joined by Mamoru. When his strength was up Mamoru and Motoki would go to the Arcade, no one knew that Motoki was sick except for Mamoru and the owner of the Arcade.Usagi pushed her hair back and put the medicine she had just picked up in her purse. Walking up the steps she gave a soft smile to the Shinto priestess who was sweeping. "Hey Rei", she said lightly and widened her grin though Rei saw the sadness in her best friend's eyes. She knew how hard it was for Usagi, her own grandfather had been sick and died a year ago."I just thought I'd stop by for awhile since Motoki's spending the day with his family" "I'm glad you're here", Rei responded and put an arm around her friend. They walked into her house and sat on the floor."How's everything going?" "Everything's fine, Motoki's feeling okay and I've been living at his place for awhile", she said and gave her a smile that was suppose to show that she doing good. Rei saw that her friend was trying to convince her that things were okay."I'm gonna go back to school as soon as Motoki-" Usagi covered her mouth to stop the sobs but Rei saw the trail of tears fall. "It's okay to cry, you know", she said and Usagi buried her face in Rei's shoulder. Only now did Rei see how delicate her friend was and how much this sickness was not only killing Motoki but Usagi too. ******************************************************************** Counting the money he made, Mamoru roughly put it in his pocket. The cash he had earned in the Arcade had gone towards Motoki's medicine. The Furuhata's had not been able to afford a lot of the things that Motoki needed but were too embarrassed to say anything. Usagi and Mamoru had a talk with them and agreed to pay for half the medical bills plus the medicine. He was very willing to find any way possible to thank Motoki for being the good friend he was. Mamoru thought of his friend's upbeat attitude and wondered how he kept it up. A loud thunder sounded from the sky and an outpour of rain began to fall. "THIS IS HORRIBLE!"A voice cried and Mamoru turned to see an odango-haired blond running. She held a coat over her but at no avail was still soaking wet. She stopped when she saw him."Mamoru?" "Yeah" He was drenched in water and it looked like the rain wouldn't stop for awhile. "We're lucky, we're right in front of my apartment. Let's go!" She took his hand and led him in. He felt the warmth of her hands. Suddenly it was gone, she had let go of him. They ran up the stairs and she took out the key to let them in her apartment. The door creaked and they walked in. Mamoru looked at the small but beautiful apartment. Her carpet was cream colored with matching furniture. A clear coffee table with golden angels that held it up stood in the middle of the living room. A TV and VCR was also there and on top of the fireplace were pictures of Usagi with her friends, family and of course Motoki."Not much but nice enough" She tossed her purse on a chair and went into the bathroom quickly."I've lived here since college and I had to work my butt off for it" As Mamoru surveyed his surroundings and she threw a towel in his face. "Thanks", he responded and turned to look at her. Her odangos had fallen and now her long blonde hair reached her ankles in a golden wave. Her cheeks were flushed from running and her eyes glowed. He felt his heart drop to the ground."Usa..." Usagi turned suddenly looking at him. "Don't call me that", she said harshly. He realized he had called her Motoki's petname. A boom of thunder rang throughout the house and Usagi grabbed Mamoru as the lights went out."Oh great" Usagi went to the fireplace and threw a match in. Both of them sat down and in front of it, warming their hands. He was aware of Usagi's presence and her floral scent lingered in his nose."Are you scared?" Her sudden question confused him. "About what?"He said. "Motoki drifts farther away from us everyday. It's almost four months", she said."I'm scared and I love him so much Mamoru, it's not fair" Usagi turned to him and their noses almost touched. Once again the sense of familiarness came over but something else too. "I hold on to him as much as I can, Usagi but we're losing him, aren't we?" Tears stung his dark eyes and she noticed that she had seen this look on him many times. She wondered why he never cried."I don't wanna give him up, I've lost my parents too" He had too many death in his life and he didn't know if he could really think of another one happening. His eyes began to droop and Mamoru felt his lips drawn to her. Both of them weren't aware of what they were doing. Usagi's own eyes began to close with suddenly she pulled back. "I've gotta go check on Motoki" The line between desire and loyalty was drawn. They knew that what bounded them together would tear them apart. Usagi didn't want it to happen, she wouldn't let it happen. getting up to get to the phone, she dial quickly her heart still pounding."Hello Unazuki? How's Andrew?" Mamoru watched the color drop from her cheeks and she put a hand to her mouth. Quietly she hung up the phone. Usagi turned to him and sadness etched her face as well as...guilt?
