The Softest Snowflake You would never turn around I don't need to speak You're laughing at everything And you know what I'm thinking That's bringing me down, You don't need to hear what I say Did you say you loved me? I don't have to ask I almost forgot.... 'Cause you'll guess what I'm seeking You don't need to hide That I will never be free What you know There'll always be something Mathew Sweet, We're the Same Stuck inside of meDid you say you felt that?I almost forgot... -Mathew Sweet, I almost forgot Serena lifted her face to the sky, closing her eyes and breathing deeply of the fresh winter air. "You know," she said aloud. "I think it's going to snow, Luna." She said quietly, breathing in deeply again. "How so, Serena?" Luna asked in a tired voice. She would have much preferred to be inside where it was warm. "Can't you smell it? I can just smell the snow wanting to fall... Like ice smells, you know?" she answered, not noting the tone of voice the cat was using. "I love the snow... It's so... peaceful..." "Really Serena, can't you grow up? You should be concentrating on-" Luna started, hoping to get her to think about all this nega-verse activity lately and the seven rainbow crystals. "Don't start Luna. I don't want you to ruin my day. If you're going to lecture me on all that nega-verse crud, forget it. I'll go have fun on my own!" and she skipped away down the street happily as though nothing had happened. 'I don't need Luna right now anyway... I can handle being a normal kid for just this one day...' she thought as she raced up the hill in front of her. It was a large hill with a forest at the top, and everything was covered in snow, the perfect winter wonderland. She laughed and flung herself into the snow headfirst (intentionally for once) and stared up at the sky. 'I just know it's going to snow today...' As if to please her, the gray/blue sky was suddenly filled with snow and the dainty flakes drifted down to her. Serena laughed and hooted and cheered as she closed her eyes and let them drift down onto her eyelashes. "I told her it would snow!" and she burst into laughter, sitting up and looking around. "No one's here..." she noted aloud. Then she spied the small and very frozen pond to her left. She looked around once more, and seeing no one, concentrated until skating blades appeared attached to her winter boots. She hadn't told anyone she could do this, but it was fun if she ever found the time to. Checking once more that she was alone, she glided out onto the ice and started with a few practice jumps before leaning into a full out dance type routine on skates. She was amazing, like a pro from the Olympics or something. Serena glided around the pond with the utmost of ease and grace. She sped up and flung herself into a perfect triple axle. 'I love this feeling!' she thought ecstatically. 'Like I could fly...' she closed her eyes and let her mind wander around the idea of flying, while still making her way around the pond. If she had opened her eyes she would have realized that her skate blades were no longer touching the ice. She would have realized that in a way, she was... hovering. Darien looked up and heard the last bit Serena had said. 'Don't start Luna. I don't want you to ruin my day. If you're going to lecture me on all that nega-verse crud, forget it. I'll go have fun on my own!' He noted that she was storming away from her cat that was also storming away. 'Nega-verse crud? Why would Serena be involved in that?' he paused. 'And why was she talking to her cat?' He decided to follow her. After all, if he had learned anything from being Tuxedo Mask it was that nothing is as it appears. She wound up playing in the snow on a large hill and he had to keep himself from laughing. How cute and childish she looked to him from his hiding spot in the bushes. Just then, it started to snow and she cheered wildly, closing her eyes. 'I told her it would snow!' she hooted triumphantly. 'No one's here...' she looked around, even right at him and he held his breath for fear she would spot him. Then Serena got this... look on her face. She looked around one more time before concentrating on something. Darien paled as skate blades appeared on her boots. 'How in hell did she do that?!' Then she was on the ice, skating with a grace and ease he had never seen before. She was amazing! She did triple axles and jumps and turns with no problems at all... 'Who are you Serena? What else does no one know about you?' he wondered. She closed her eyes again, continuing around the rink, but... was she getting taller? No...he looked again. 'Oh my holy fuc*ing sh*t. She's floating. Floating in thin air!' Well there was no question about it now. Serena was definitely not what she appeared. He found himself standing up and walking towards the pond. He stood at the edge of it, watching her for a time. "So Serena, what else don't I know about you?" he asked aloud. She stooped, opened her eyes and looked down at her feet until they touched the ice again before looking at him. "Darien, it's not what it seems, um... You've been out in the cold to long! This is a dream! A wonderful, wacky dream. Why don't you go home and you'll wake up and realize that's all this was..." she stopped talking and looked at him desperately. "Serena, you know as well as I do that this is not a dream. I promise I won't tell anyone, but I need to know, how?" he asked her. "I don't know..." she whispered softly. She looked up at the sky again and caught a small snowflake on her mitten. "I told her it would snow..." she said to herself. "I just didn't think that this would happen... Oh Darien, why did you have to complicate things more than they already are?" she whispered softly. "All I know Serena, is you've always been...different from everyone else. Do you think no one has noticed when you run away in the middle of something for no apparent reason and come back a few minutes latter exhausted? What's going on with you Serena?" She sighed and glided over to him, pulling him onto the ice. He was surprised to see that he to was suddenly wearing skates. "I have duty Darien, as odd as it may seem, I have to do things that I may not like, but are for others. I don't like it, I never have. Destiny and all that... All I ever wanted was to be normal. But that's too much to ask if you have my past. They don't know it, but I've known for a long time. I knew who the princess was after the first fight...." She sighed and pulled him around the pond slowly, skating backwards. "You mean, the moon princess?" he asked her, surprised but getting a clue as to what she was trying to say. "Yes Darien. I knew who you were too... But I never said anything. It was more normal this way." She paused. "I hate this! It's so damned annoying! I wish I could just run away and forget about Beryl and the Nega-verse! I'll see you around Darien." Her skates were gone and she rushed out of his view, the snow covering her prints just as quickly as they appeared. To be continued or not to be continued? What do you think?
