The Weekend That Changed Everything By Michelle (m_mckague@hotmail.com) Part Two- A Complicated Twist A.N- Okay, this part might be a little out of character for them buthold in there, it’s important for later parts. Okay? Also, I knew I forgotsomething in the first part: The disclaimer, so here it is. Disclaimer- Oh, come on! Anyone who knows anything about Sailor Moonknows that I do NOT own the series or anything in them. Naoko Takeuchi hasthat pleasure, not me. I wish I did, but I don’t. I’m also not making anymoney off using them in this story so please don’t sue me. Darien walked into his apartment and played his answering machine tocheck for messages. The first one was from Andrew. “Darien, it’s Andrew. Mina’s been bugging me to ask you to come tothis party she’s holding for a friend in two weeks. It’s not Raye, don’tworry. She won’t even be there, she has to go out of town that weekend. Who’sthe lucky girl? That’s a surprise. Anyway, Mina wants you there, somethingabout numbers. I know you’d hate to disappoint Mina, and hey at least Rayewon’t be there. By the way I know it’s none of my business, but you’ll haveto end that eventually. It’s not fair to lead her on, well I’ve said my bit.Bye.” Darien smile, he knew Andrew was right and he would do just that. He played the next message. “Darien? It’s Amy Anderson, from the hospital. I was wondering if youcould do me a favour.... I need to know by next week, please call me it’s 755-6173.” Darien frowned, what could Amy want? She was one of Raye’s friends, but she seemed to agree with Andrew that he and Raye just didn’t go together. She had even once told him that he deserved more than Raye. He had been surprised at the time, but now wondered if she was right. There was only one more message so he played it. “Endy? It’s Raye. Where are you? I’ve tried calling all weekend and I finally decided to leave a message. You know I hate these things soplease call me.” He tensed when he heard his girlfriend’s voice. Just that named proved what was wrong with their relationship. Endy. She had always refused to callhim Darien, preferring the romantic sounding Endymion. At first he hadn’tminded but now it drove him crazy. He sighed and turned the machine off and then he put his hand in his pocket. He took out the slip of paper Rena had given him and read it. “Serena Thompson, New York City, 755-9872.” He read out loud. He wasn’t surprised to learn she lived in the same city, she had saidas much, but he was surprised to see that she lived fairly close by. Hehad read the address at the bottom and it turned out to be not far from his place. He decided to act on impulse and he picked up the phone. She answered it on the first ring. “Hello?” “Serena? It’s Darien, from the Inn?” “Dare?” She asked in a surprised, but happy, voice. “I wasn’texpecting you to call so soon.” “I wasn’t either, but I was wondering if you were free tonight.” “Yes.” She said quickly. “How about we meet in an hour?” “Actually, I can pick you up it’s on my way.” Darien suggested. Serena was quiet for a minute before she did something very unlikeher. “I have an idea. Why don’t I cook us dinner here?” “Great.” Darien said, liking the idea of spending time alone with hisdream girl. “I’ll be there in an hour.” “I can’t wait.” She told him, knowing that she meant it. “Neither can I.” Darien told her before hanging up. He stood there, for a minute before going to get dressed.* * * * * Serena checked herself in the mirror for the third time. She hoped she looked good, she had decided to go for a casual look and was wearing apair of turquoise silk lounge pyjamas. She normally wouldn’t have worn something like that on a first date, she normally wouldn’t have invited him to her place either, but it justfelt right. Darien was the guy she had been searching all these years for. She looked in the mirror one last time and was pleased by what shesaw, then she walked over to check her messages. She had meant to do itearlier, but Darien had called and she had forgotten. It turned out she had six messages in total. She began to play them. “Rena? It’s your little brother. I’m coming to New York next week andI’d like to see you. Call me back.” Serena smiled at the message from her brother. Sammy and she hadalways been close and she missed him so much now that she was living in NewYork. He was still in Boston where they had grown up and was now working intheir father’s computer firm. Actually all her closest friends had grown up in Boston and haddecided to live in New York at the same time. Lita had gone first and had enrolled in a great cooking school andwithin six months all the others had followed. Serena had been the last, she had been about to enter Harvard LawSchool at the time and wasn’t sure if she wanted to transfer. In the end she hadgone to Yale instead and was happy with her decision. She played the next message and was thrilled to hear Lita’s familiarvoice. “Serena? Damn it girl, you know I hate these things. Well, it can’t be helped. I’ve finally decided who the Maid of Honour will be. Congratulations, it’s you. I finally realised I couldn't have anyoneelse, because although I’m close to the others your the best friend I’ve everhad. Call me.” Serena started to cry. She couldn’t believe that Lita had chosen her to be the Maid of Honour. She played the next message. “Rena? It’s Mina. I just thought I’d let you know that I’m hosting a birthday party for you not next Saturday but the one after that, sodon’t make any plans. Got it? Love you.” Serena laughed at Mina’s message. Mina had always been like that. Breezy, flaky, slightly bossy, but basically kind hearted. She played the next message, surprised that there were so many. “Serenity Marie Thompson where are you? It’s your mother and I was expecting you down this weekend. I know you didn’t say definitely yes,but you could have called and told me you weren’t coming. Call me when youget in young lady.” Serena winced at her mother’s message. Oops. She knew she had forgotten something. Her mom must be really mad to call her Serenity, she didn’t usually. She sighed and played the next message. “Ser? It’s Amy. I want you to do a favour for me. Call me.” Serena wondered curiously what Amy wanted, she wasn’t the kind tonormally ask for favours. Serena played the last message, betting it was from Raye, Raye was theonly female of that group of called who hadn’t called yet. She was right. “Ser? It’s Raye, duh. I was wondering if you’d please join Endy and Ifor lunch sometime next week. Things have been so tense lately and I coulduse a support system. Besides your so friendly everybody likes you, please?Call me.” Serena decided that she would and turned off her machine. Just then there was a knock on the door and she went to answer it. Shewas thrilled to see that it was Darien. “Just on time.” She told him with a smile. Darien smiled back. “How could I not be when I was going to see such a beautiful woman?” Serena blushed and looked at him. He was wearing jeans and a blackshirt with the top couple buttons undone. Darien’s eyes were similarly on Serena. She was an angel. They stared at a few minutes later she recovered her senses. “I’m so sorry, come in.” Darien took the invitation and came in. The two walked into Serena’s comfortable living room. Suddenly Darien knew he had to tell her about Raye, or at least someof it. “Serena, I’m involved with someone.” He blurted out. She felt as if her heart had been ripped out. “I see.” She saidcoolly. “No you don’t.” Darien told her, wringing his hands. “It’s not whatyou think. It’s over, at least for me. It’s been over for a long time, butI just kept seeing her because I didn’t want to hurt her. She’s a greatgirl, but I just don’t feel the same way about her anymore. I don’t think Iever did. I started dating her because it felt right and I just kept seeingher because I didn’t want to hurt her. But I never felt the same way abouther that I do about you.” “How do you feel about me?” She asked, looking him straight in theeyes. “I think I’m falling in love with you.” Darien told her honestly. “I’m falling in love with you too.” She confessed. “It’s so unlike me,I barely know you.” “That’s not true.” Darien told her, coming to stand right in front ofher. “I mean it is, but I feel as if I’ve known you forever.” He confessed softly. “It’s the same for me.” She said, looking deep into his eyes. She felt as if she had known those eyes forever, as if she could readhis soul. She took one step towards him and fastened her arms around hisneck. “This wasn’t what I planned Darien, but it’s what was meant to be.”She told him huskily. “It was.” He agreed, kissing her passionately. She kissed him back with equal passion, suddenly not afraid of wherethis could lead. She truly believed that Darien was who she had been waiting for for so long. He was her destiny. After a minute Darien tensed, sensing that things were going to fast, and he began to pull away. “Don’t.” She whispered softly. “What?” Darien asked, not believing his ears. “I’ve never even let a guy kiss me on a first date, let alone go any farther. Actually I've never let anyone go any farther than kissing, but I want you to.” “Rena, you had to have been waiting for someone special.” Darien protested. Serena smiled and looked at him. “I was and now I’ve found him. Darien, it’s you. You're the one I’ve been looking for for so long.” Darien knew she was right, it was the same for him. “I just wish I could offer you the same gift.” He told her tenderly, pulling her close to him. “It’s okay.” Serena whispered. “I know that I’ll be the first to haveyour heart.” She was right about that. Never had he ever about anyone like he felt about her, his heart was hers forever. “If your sure.” Darien said, not wanting her to regret this. “I am.” She told him, standing on her tiptoes and kissing him softly. The kiss grew and then he picked her up and carried her into thebedroom neither thinking about anything other than each other and this night. * * * * * MIchelle
