Disclaimer: I do not own Sailor Moon. Darien was breathing heavily trying to keep up with Serena. Before he had to drag her behind him, but she suddenly seemed to regain most of her energy. She was almost flying through the brush, dodging nimbly this way and that. He would've stopped to just admire her grace, had he not been struggling to keep her in sight because she had grown so swift. Her skirts were lifted appallingly high as she ran through the brush, her torn and tattered slippers making not a sound. Darien, on the other hand, sounded like a stampede as clumsily barreled through the forest. They had been running for close to ten minutes when Darien gasped out, "Serena. Please. I-I need to rest!" Serena dropped her skirts and turned around. She glanced worriedly behind Darien. "Alright. I think we're far enough away from them now. We'll camp here for the night." Darien gratefully sank down next to a tree. His breathing worried Serena and she leaned down next to him. "Are you going to be alright?" Darien nodded and waved her away. Still looking concerned, she got up and began exploring the area. "Well, we can't build a fire, not unless we want to attract every outlaw in the forest." Darien nodded in agreement. She went on. "I'm going to search around the clearing for some food." She looked up. "It's cloudy and I can't see the stars. We'll have to rely on the sun tomorrow morning." Darien looked at her admiringly. "You seem to know a lot about survival." Serena shrugged and smiled slightly, forgetting about being mean. "Yeah. I'm no expert, but back on the- I mean, a while back Lita taught me the basics of survival." Darien nodded. "Oh." With that, Serena disappeared into the woods. He could hear her for a second, but then all became quiet. He started to get worried? "Serena?" He called softly. "Serena?" A little louder this time. He climbed to his feet, looking around cautiously. He walked to the edge of the clearing. "Serena where are you?" There was still no answer. "Sere-" "Darien!" Darien jumped searched for her. There was basically nothing but darkness everywhere. "Where are you?" "Right here-" She walked out from behind a bush and into the clearing. "We're in luck, Darien! I found a berry bush!" Sighing with relief, Darien held out his hand to Serena. She places about eight small berries in his hand. "What kind are they? Are they okay to eat?" Serena laughed. "They are only blueberries!" Darien nodded and popped a few into his mouth. He hadn't realized how hungry he actually was. He walked back over to his tree and just as he sat down, it started to rain again. He heard Serena sigh and shiver slightly. "We need to try and get some sleep. We have a long day ahead of us." Serena nodded and ducked under the same tree Darien was under. She leaned back and closed her eyes. Darien did the same. The tree leaves stopped most of the rain, but it was still a major annoyance. After a few minutes, the night started to get cold and wind started to blow. He opened his eyes and found Serena shaking violently in the cold. He draped an arm around her and she rested her head on his shoulder. Serena was glad for the warmth and pulled her legs closer to her in a small ball leaning against Darien. Darien was too tired to think of anything else but sleep, even the girl under his arm. Without a second thought, he dozed off. ***************************************************************** Serena awoke to the sound of someone crashing through the underbrush. Instinctively, she reached for her sword, only to find she was still only in her underdress. So instead, she reached under her dress for the small dagger strapped to her calf. She knew it was probably Darien, but she didn't want to be careless and walk into some sort of trap. Rubbing her eyes, she stood up, dagger in hand. She was about to take a step forward when Darien walked into the clearing between two trees. Serena sighed and put the dagger back. "I got a few berries before you woke up. I didn't want to disturb you." Remembering suddenly where she had spent the previous night, she turned a bright shade of pink. "Uh, okay thank you." Brushing off her beyond-repair girdle, she took a few of the berries he held out to her. While she was eating she looked up at the sky. "I haven't any idea in the least how far we might be from camp. All I can say we do is travel west toward the sea." Darien nodded. "We can't have gone THAT far from the fort or the camp because we were stopped only a few minutes after running like crazy away from the fort." Serena sighed at sank to the ground. "Yes but once we escaped, we ran even faster for even longer in different directions." Serena felt her heart sink. We could be in the woods for days, she thought. Darien helped her up. "No use in talking about our troubles when we could be doing something about them." Sighing yet again, Serena clambered to her feet and stood in front of Darien, looking up at the sky. "Lets get going then." Trudging through the forest wasn't so bad. With Darien, that is. And she had a vague idea of where they were going. Serena felt her spirits lift again for the first time in a while. ***************************************************************** Cain was rushing through the dark halls of his Queen's castle towards the throne room. He reached the wooden doors and pushed them open, barging inside. The first thing he heard was Beryl's nasal, high voice. "Who dares intrude so? Speak up!" Cain came into the circle of light surrounding the throne room. "It is I, Cain." What some people would call a smile spread across the Queen's beautiful, yet somehow poisonous features. "Ah yes! Our faithful little spy! What news?" Cain gulped and delivered his message. "I should have come to you with this sooner, but do you recall that little wench that escaped a few days ago?" The smile disappeared. "The little beast insulted me! How could I not forget? Isabel d'Condieur was it?" Cain took a deep breath. "That is one thing to speak to you about your majesty." Queen Beryl raised an eyebrow. "I saw her at Barendieu's camp. She had returned only a day after escaping!" Queen Beryl's eyes narrowed dangerously. "Don't waste my time, nitwit! What else?" Cain trembled and forced himself to say what he had come to say. "Well, my Queen, I thought you knew this. Her name isn't Isabel d'Condieur." "Oh?" Cain nodded. "No, Queen Beryl. Her name is Serena." At first nothing happened. Then Beryl let out a scream. "SERENA?!" Cain was confused. "Yes Queen Beryl. What is so bad about that name?" Queen Beryl now had an angry green aura around her. She was trembling with hate. "Fool! Serena is the name of Serenity's daughter! That moon brat!" Cain stuttered. "B-but I thought she was still on the moon! How do you know she isn't?" Beryl almost lashed out at Cain. "I have a man just like you on the moon working for me. A spy." Cain nodded. "There is also one more matter." Beryl sat down, a plan forming in her mind. "Yes yes. Out with it." "Well, when you sent that black energy wave, most of the people managed to escape." Beryl nodded. "I expected them to. That was to keep them busy." Cain went on. "Yes, but Serena was there. She and a young man named Darien escaped. They are currently lost in the woods." Beryl shouted gleefully. "Perfect! This is the perfect opportunity to get the little thorn in my side once and for all! I'll save Darien though. He's the dauphin of France, you know. When this is all over, perhaps even the King of the Earth! And I can be the Queen." This came as even more of a shocker to Cain. "Darien? Royalty?" "Why yes! Once his father passes on, he will be king. And if he becomes a hero, maybe the King of the Earth. But I can't let him be a hero. That would mean my losing. I never lose. Right Sir Cain?" Cain was speechless. He had just been made a knight! A knight of Queen Beryl's army! "Sir? My Queen." "Why not? You've served me well. Now for your first duty." Cain snapped to attention. "Anything, my Queen." Beryl smiled evilly. "Don't let Darien or Serena join up with their little army. I want both of them here. Alone." "Yes my Queen!" With that, Cain rushed out to get started. "Oh this is too good." Said Queen Beryl to herself. Then she laughed and laughed and laughed. Her laughter could be heard throughout the halls of her palace. ***************************************************************** (AN: This is the first time I used Queen Serenity in part of the story but it was necessary in the long run.) The Queen paced back and forth in her throne room. She didn't normally come in here except for special occasions when she had to meet other royalty or take care of business, but she wanted to be in a big room. She was feeling cooped up and stressed. Now, she found out, it didn't help at all to come in here. She still felt cooped up and stresses. "Oh Luna. I know Serena is in trouble, but I don't know what." Luna nodded. "I know, Serenity. I can feel it too." "I mean, I knew when I sent her t fight that she would be in danger, but I have the feeling this is more than just battle. She is dealing with something much bigger than her right now." All Luna could do was nod. Suddenly a guard came into the room. "Pardon my interruption, your Majesty, Luna," he nodded respectively at Luna, "but we've caught a spy." The Queen gasped. "A spy? Good heavens! Do you think there could be more?" The guard nodded. "Could be, my Queen, but this guy looked like he was working alone. Though you can never be too careful. From now one we will be questioning everyone that comes onto the moon." Serenity nodded. "Thank you." The guard turned to lave, but Luna shouted after the guard. "Who is he a spy for?" The guard turned around. "Queen Beryl." Then he left. Serenity, horror stricken, looked at Luna. "So THAT'S what I was feeling, Luna!" Luna nodded gravely. "Luna. We can't afford to get involved int he war, but I have to help Serena somehow." the Queen walked to her throne and sank into it. Luna walked up, clearing her throat. "I could go and check on her, your Majesty. I could look out for her." It took a moment for this to register in the Queen's mind. Then she lit up. "Luna! You're brilliant! Luna blushed and looked down. "I know." ********Well? Has anyone lost interest? Are you dying to know what happens next? Well I want to know what YOU want to know!
