"Ugh??" Serena groaned and opened her eyes. Her neck was
painfully sore. Her head had been lagging to the side for
goodness knew how long. She checked herself, and everything
seemed to be okay, save for the fact that she was in shackles and
her ankle was sprained. She also had a purple bruise covering her
hip. Rubbing her neck, she gazed at her surroundings. She was in
a dank, dark cell with slimy stone walls. There was a dim light
emitting from a torch with a skull holder in the far corner of
the cell. She spotted a dark figure across from her chained to
the wall. Was it Darien? Peering closer, she could see the figure
appeared to be moving. Then, to her horror, she realized that the
figure was a recently dead corpse seething with maggots. Serena
cringed and fought down the urge to scream. She HAD to get out of
here! Taking a deep breath through her mouth, she attempted to
calm down. It wasn't easy with a rotting corpse a few meters
away. She made a mental list of what had to be done. "First
things first. My shackles." Serena thought that it was foolish of
Beryl not to keep her under closer guard now that she knew who
Serena really was. She didn't use her powers before when she was
in Beryl's captivity because she was always being checked on by
her guards and Will. She couldn't afford o blow her cover then.
But now that her identity was known, she didn't hesitate. Serena
closed her eyes and concentrated in the iron shackle around her
left wrist. She felt the warm glow of her moon sigil appearing on
her forehead. A white-hot beam sliced through the iron like
butter. She did the same thing to the opposite wrist. Next,
taking a breath, she held out her hands and concentrated. A
golden aura surrounded her hands. She placed one hand on her hip.
She felt the tingling sensation as power flowed through her
blood. Soon the bruise was gone. She repeated the process with
her ankle. Cautiously, she climbed to her feet. Staying as far
away from the corpse as the could, she made her way to the heavy
wooden door. She fumbled with the lock and was just powering up
when she heard light footsteps running toward her cell. She sank
back into the shadows and waited. The footsteps stopped right in
front of her door. "Serena? Are you in there?" "Luna!" Serena
rushed up to the door. The human face of her cat guardian peered
through the small barred window in the door. "How did you get
in?" Luna shook her head. "A disguise. But we can't talk right
now. I need to get you out of here." Luna was fumbling with the
lock when they heard the heavier footsteps of the guards running
down the tunnel. "Luna! Hide!" Luna shook her head. "I need to
get you out." "Luna! For once listen to one word I say! If they
catch you here, we are both dead! I need you alive." Luna
reluctantly nodded. Her cloths sank into her skin and shaggy
brown fur sprouted in a ripple down her body. Her eyes got larger
and rounder and a muzzle emerged. Whiskers and a tail shot out.
All the while, she was shrinking. "Act like a stray, Luna. You
certainly look like one. "Shut up Serena. Hush. Here they come."
Luna ran down the corridor and vanished out of sight. Serena
stood against the wall and waited, poised. She heard the metal
clang as the lock sprung open. Five big guards walked into the
cell. "Let's go. We are going to see Beryl." Serena resisted, but
futilely. There were too many for her right now. Her energy was
low and there was no way she could fight five big men right now.
She was dragged through a maze of corridors. She soon found
herself in Beryl's throne room. Like last time, Beryl was perched
on her high throne holding a scepter. But something was different.
On the opposite side of the massive room a group of people came
into the light. "Darien!"

Darien saw Serena and breathed a sigh of relief. He was
worried she hadn't survived. Darien guessed that the figure on the
throne was Queen Beryl as Serena had described. She motioned for
the guards to bring both of them directly before her. "Ah. Both
of my royal guests. Who would've thought? Two line of royalty
standing before me. Isn't that right little Isabel? Or should I
say, Princess Serenity?" Darien gasped. Serena was a princess?
"And you, Darien. The Dauphin of France." Now it was Serena's
turn to gasp. She gave him an incredulous look. "Ah. I see that
neither of you were aware of each other's heritage." Serena
struggled against the guards. "What do you want us for, snake?"
"Silence, Moon brat! You'll learn your fate soon enough." She
turned to Darien. "I want you to rule with me, Darien. With our
powers combined, we can take over this miserable planet." Darien
scoffed. "Are you mad? I nearly died many times trying to beat
you and your evil army to defend the country and possibly planet
that I may soon rule? And you expect me to join forces with you?
You are nothing but a witch that needs to be burned a the stake!"
Beryl narrowed her eyes. "No one speaks to me that way! I'll just
kill you right here and now! Die, you fool!" Beryl stood and
reached for her scepter. "Ahhh!" A green beam sliced Beryl's
shoulder. Serena couldn't tell where the beam came from, but she
was sure it was Luna. She used the distraction to break free of
the guards. Darien followed her example and elbowed the nearest
guard in the chin. They all advanced on him and her threw punches
and kicks in what he hoped would be an attempt to free himself.
He must have done something right, because he was able to push
through the circle on Beryl's less-than-bright guards. Serena was
waiting anxiously for him at an exit. She motioned for him to
hurry up. A brown cat was with her. He ran and met her. Together
they ran down a tunnel, the brown cat in the lead. "Is that light
I see up ahead?" The cat could talk! Darien didn't have time to
be surprised, because Serena shouted. They are coming after us!
Hurry Luna!" Darien kept pace with Serena, but he could tell she
was holding back fro him. "Stop!" Luna's voice was heard a few
feet away around the next corner. Serena rounded the curve first
and stopped in her tracks. Darien nearly knocked her over. The
tunnel just ended! Darien looked down. There was almost a two
hundred foot drop! "Here they come!" Luna yelled. "What do we
do?" Serena, looking back, screamed, "There they are!" Darien
followed Serena's gaze. The tunnel was blocked. Guards were
walking slowly towards them. They were trapped! Suddenly Serena
yelled, "Jump!" Luna jumped and Serena shoved Darien over the
edge. They were all falling towards certain death below.
