DISCLAIMER: I don't own Sailor Moon. EXPLAINER: This part of the story, "Cain" is walking through the forest. Cain is the bad guy in the story. You may not comprehend what's going on until later. The clip-clop sound of Cain's horse's hooves was inaudible as the rain came down in torrents. His long brown hair became matted down against his head as he looked ahead warily for unseen tree branches that my cause the unexpected death of him. Cain hunched over the saddle horn as a knarled branch clawed at him from the gloomy forest walls. Even though it was high-noon, the ominous rain clouds and sheets of rain made it almost impossible to see for more than a few feet. It might as well have been midnight. Trudging through a dark, wet forest darkened Cain's mood and his mind drifted to dark thoughts. Not surprisingly, his first dark thought was of Capitan Barendieu. He hated that man with every drop of life within him. The bloke had assigned him to a new partner he was sure could never match him. A crooked smile played at Cain's lips. No matter. I'll see him meet his proper fate soon enough. He was making his way to an "enemy" encampment, well hidden in the wood only a few miles from the other camp from which he had just come. They had promised him a high rank and a large reward if he would serve them well. He had made entirely new identities on one side of his trusting "ally." One the side under command of Capitan Barendieu, he played a quiet moralist who kept a low profile and knew how the keep a secret. ***************************************************************** Serena's stomach was doing cartwheels, she was sure of it. She had been fidgeting yet again with her, which was a very bad habit of hers. Where was he? She was just about to start pacing to and fro in front of the door when a hand lightly tapped her shoulder. She started and in a flash whirled around only to come face-to-face with Darien. She was a mere inches from him, close enough to touch. Blushing, she gained her composure, and straiten her spine and stepped back, although reluctantly. Darien only laughed. "A little uptight, are we?" This only made Serena blush harder and sputter excuses to the ground. He only chuckled and cupped her chin and raised her face, bringing her to stare into Celtic-blue eyes. The humor was gone from his face now, and his face inched closer to hers. Serena inhaled sharply. "Umm...uhh, I think we should go in now.." Realization flickered in Darien's eyes, and it was his turn to redden. She smiled slightly and turned to open the door, when her grabbed her wrist. She looked up at him in confusion. He sighed. "I've got some food ready in the woods. A picnic, of sorts. Care to join me?" Serena was delighted. "Of course!" Darien exhaled a breath which he didn't realize he'd been holding. Relief was apparent in his features. He offered his arm, knowing that Malachite would lose it over this gesture, and she took it. ***************************************************************** Serena and Darien were nearing the woods when they spotted Will mounted on a white mare. Darien waved him down. "Hey Will! What are you doing in the woods? You're missing lunch hour!" Will looked up to see Darien, and for a second he was frowning at him, before gaining a mask of a shy smile. "Hullo Darien. I was looking for something." Serena raised a pale eyebrow. She didn't know why, but she was getting bad feelings from this guy. Darien didn't seem to notice Will's nervous tone. Cautiously, Serena inquired, "Sorry Will, we arrived on the same fleet, but I don't think we have every met before, have we? Bye the way, How do you know Darien? He arrived only this morning." Will looked down and pawed the ground with the toe of his boot. "Well, Darien and I were friends a while back, and as for meeting you, I sort of keep to myself." Serena tried to get more out of him. "I heard that you were going to be partnered up with my ld partner, Sean." A flash of anger glinted in Will's eyes for a second. "I told Barendieu I didn't want to be paired up with him! I mean....I mean..er..I'm not sure how good a fighter he is," Serena clearly felt that something was up. "Oh he is. You might even have a hard time with him." Will's head snapped up like her was going to retort back to her, but instead his face fell and he simply muttered, "Maybe. See ya round. Darien watch him lead his horse off. "What do you think of him?" Serena decided she didn't want to tell Darien about it just yet. "He's alright." Darien smiled in agreement as they walked together in silence to a spot in the woods. Serena grinned as she looked down and saw and crude blanked and a large basket. Immediately, she kneeled down in front of the basket, waiting to examine the food. Darien pulled out a loaf of bread, some wine,(nothing special. This is what they drank back then.)some cheese, and some of the same slop they had everyday. "Darien! How did you come in to all of this?!" Darien grinned mischievously. "Good thing the chef is a lonely woman! I wasn't sure how well I could've sweet-talked a man!" Serena giggled as Darien poured some of the wine. Serena forgot about Will for the moment, too intent on talking and laughing with Darien on a beautiful spring day. ********Hey Ya'll!
